Abstract:
Described is a method for repelling house flies or mosquitoes using either (a) a composition of matter which contains a major proportion of a mixture defined according to the structure: ##STR1## wherein in each of the molecules of the mixture one of the dashed lines is a carbon-carbon double bond and each of the other of the dashed lines is a carbon-carbon single bond or (b) a composition of matter containing a major proportion of the compound having the structure: ##STR2##
Abstract:
Described is a method for repelling insects for a finite period of time from a three dimensional space inhabitable by insects comprising the step of exposing said three dimensional space inhabited by said insects to an insect repelling quantity of either:(a) KOAVONE.RTM. defined according to the structure: ##STR1## wherein in the mixture one of the dashed lines is a carbon-carbon double bond and each of the other of the dashed lines is a carbon-carbon single bond; or(b) KOAVOL DH.RTM. having the structure: ##STR2## KOAVONE.RTM. and KOAVOL DH.RTM. are trademarks of International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. of New York, N.Y.
Abstract:
Described is a process for repelling house flies and mosquitoes from a user of soap comprising the steps of:(i) forming an insect repelling soap consisting essentially of a soap base and in intimate contact with the soap base an insect repellent quantity and concentration of a mixture of compounds defined according to the structures: ##STR1## (ii) applying the thus-formed insect repellent soap to a user in a sufficient quantity to repel insects from the user.
Abstract:
Described is a process for repelling house flies and mosquitoes from the proximity of a user of soap by means of:(i) forming an insect repelling soap by admixing a soap base with either the compound having the structure: ##STR1## the compounds defined according to the structure: ##STR2## (wherein in each of the compounds of the mixture, one of the dashed lines represents a carbon-carbon double bond and each of the other of the dashed lines represents a carbon-carbon single bond) and then(ii) applying the thus formed mosquito or house fly repellent soap to a user in a sufficient quantity to repel insects from the proximity of the user.
Abstract:
Described is apparatus for determining repellency and attractancy of semiochemicals against and for blood feeding arthropods which apparatus is capable of using radiation means and created air stream means or carbon dioxide stream means to attract the arthropods into the vicinity of the apparatus, with the arthropods then being attracted into the trap or repelled from the trap as a result of the particular semiochemical contained terein.
Abstract:
Described is the methyl substituted tetrahydroindanone having the structure: ##STR1## and uses thereof in augmenting or enhancing the aroma of consumable materials selected from the group consisting of perfume compositions, colognes and perfumed articles.
Abstract:
Described is a method for repelling at least one of the insect species:(a) Musca domestica L. (Diptera Muscidae);(b) Aedes aegypti;(c) Aedes albopictus:(d) Anopheles spp.;(e) Coquillettidia perturbans;(f) Culiseta spp.;(g) Culex spp.;(h) Psorophora spp.;(i) Culicoides spp.; and/or(j) Lutzomyia spp.for a finite period of time from a three dimensional space comprising the step of exposing a three dimensional space inhabited by said insects to an insect repelling quantity of Lyrame.RTM..
Abstract:
Described are 1,1-dimethyl-1-nitrilo or hydroxylamino-3-(alkyl phenyl)-substituted propanes defined according to the generic structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of: (i) cyanide having the structure: ##STR2## (ii) hydroxylamino methyl having the structure: ##STR3## and wherein R.sub.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 lower alkyl, uses thereof in augmenting or enhancing the aroma of perfume compositions, colognes and perfumed articles including but not limited to bleach compositions, solid or liquid anionic, cationic, nonionic or zwitterionic detergents, perfumed polymers, fabric softener compositions, fabric softener articles, cosmetic powders and hair preparations. Also described are processes for preparing such 1,1-dimethyl-1-nitrilo or hydroxylamino-3-(alkyl phenyl)-substituted propanes by means of reacting an alkyl benzyl halide with isopropyl cyanide in the presence of a basic catalyst such as sodamide.
