    Abstract: The present smoke detection system uses a single sensor to quickly detect both fast flaming fires and smoldering fires while further reducing nuisance and false alarms. In the present detector, the sensor is preferably an ionization sensor. Specifically, a first algorithm is used to detect flaming fires and second algorithm is used to detect smoldering fires. An alarm is sounded when either algorithm generates an alarm condition. In each embodiment, the first algorithm generates an alarm condition when a sensor output signal exceeds a first threshold. The alarm condition is generated for the second algorithm when the sensor output signal: (1) exceeds a second threshold for T time.; (2) rate of change exceeds a predetermined rate of change threshold; (3) change between time Tn and time Tn-1 exceeds a predetermined change threshold; or (4) sensor signal exceeds an historic standard deviation of the signal multiplied by a predetermined constant.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a low battery trouble signal delay circuit for a smoke detector configured for periodically measuring environmental conditions and for producing a fire alarm signal when smoke is detected in the environment. The trouble signal delay circuit has a battery, a comparator configured for receiving a voltage measurement signal from the battery and a reference voltage measurement signal and sending a resulting signal to an activator circuit, at least one activator in the activator circuit that is user activated upon receiving a first input; and at least one low battery trouble signal annunciator connected to the activator circuit and configured for indicating that the voltage measurement signal is below the reference voltage measurement after receiving a signal from the comparator. The activator temporarily disables the low voltage trouble signal when activated for a silencing time period, while maintaining the operation of the fire alarm signal.

    Abstract: A wireless access system is provided that includes a wireless exit kit (“WEXK”) having a panic bar and a door position sensor. The WEXK is mounted on a door or other access point. The WEXK also includes a wireless transceiver for transmitting a signal from the access point to a panel interface module and eventually to an access control panel. The WEXK monitors the panic bar and door position sensor. The panic bar is user-actuatable and, when actuated, causes a request-to-exit signal to be transmitted to the transceiver. If the transceiver receives an indication from the door position sensor that the door is open and no request-to-exit signal has been received, then the transceiver generates an alarm. Conversely, if the transceiver has receivd a request-to-exit signal from the panic bar, no alarm is generated.
