摘要： An apparatus for minimally invasive tissue removal contemplates a system including a tissue cutting tool having a motor driven cut-ting blade reciprocating within a percutaneously introducable cannula. In accordance with one method of the invention, the frequency of reciprocation of the cutting blade is tuned to a characteristic frequency of the target tissue to be excised, which frequency is a function of certain properties of the target tissue and the surrounding tissue. Cutting at the characteristic frequency of the target tissue not only enhances the speed and efficiency of the tissue excision, but also minimizes the risk of cutting surrounding tissue. Another aspect of the system includes feedback control of both aspiration and irrigation circuits of the system. With the feedback control, coupled with user settable inputs, the surgeon can control the system to "tease" tissue into the cutting opening to provide more manageable bite sizes of the excised tissue. Controllable valves and pressure transducers allow the operator to set and maintain the aspiration vacuum and irrigation pressure at optimum levels. In other aspects of the invention, other cutting heads, such as a rasp and a tissue morcelator, are disclosed which take advantage of the integrated feedback control system of the invention.

摘要： To load a record into a player, such as a video disc player, a record caddy is inserted into the player housing through an input slot. The player is equipped with rails for guiding caddy insertion along a path. A record extracting mechanism mounted in the player removes the enclosed record from the caddy during subsequent caddy withdrawal, whereby the record is retained in the player. A turntable is provided for centering and rotatably supporting the retained record. The player is further equipped with a second set of rails for guiding a pickup carriage along a second path disposed substantially parallel to the caddy path. The location of the carriage path relative to the caddy path is such that the caddy engages the carriage during caddy insertion into the housing. A translating apparatus drives the pickup carriage along the carriage guiding rails away from a starting position and in a direction opposite to the direction of caddy insertion at a speed correlated to the speed of rotation of the turntable during playback. A torsion spring coupled to the carriage stores energy during mechanical translation of the carriage in the aforementioned opposite direction. The coupling between the torsion spring and the carriage is such that the stored energy applies a force to the carriage in a sense urging its travel in the direction of caddy insertion, whereby the applied force aids restoration of the carriage to the starting position when the carriage is at a position other than at the starting position during a caddy insertion.

摘要： A video disc package includes a jacket having a record enclosing cavity and an end access opening in communication therewith. A record retaining member, comprising a spine and an annular element, is reciprocably mounted within the cavity. The spine portion forms a closure for the jacket when the retaining member is fully inserted therein. The annular element has a through opening for receiving a record. An edge of the spine portion remains exposed upon full insertion of the spine into the jacket. Indicia are secured to the exposed edge of the spine for associating a given side of the spine with the first side of an enclosed record and the other side of the spine with the second side of the enclosed record. The record is enclosed within the package such that its first side is adjacent to the given side of the spine and its second side is contiguous to the other side of the spine.

摘要： A record is removably subject to occupancy of a protective caddy comprising a jacket and a record retaining spine. The record is enclosed in the caddy such that a first side of the record is associated with a given side of the spine. To load a record into a player, such as a video disc player, an occupied caddy is inserted into an input slot provided in the player. A record extracting mechanism mounted in the player removes the retaining spine and the associated record from the jacket during jacket withdrawal subsequent to the occupied cover arrival at a fully inserted position in the player, whereby the record and the spine are retained within the player. A switch mounted in the player is subject to conditioning in a first state in response to insertion of the occupied cover with the given side of the spine facing upward, and is subject to conditioning in a second state in response to cover insertion with the given side facing downward. An indicator responsive to the state of the switich and disposed on the front instrument panel of the player provides an indication of the record side subject to playback.
