Abstract: A process for incorporating a metal in steel by adding to molten iron or steel an intimate mixture, preferably in compacted form, of an oxide of the metal and carbon. The molten iron or steel is at a sufficiently high temperature to initiate a reaction between the carbon and the metal oxide to form, in situ, a metal carbide that readily disperses throughout the molten iron or steel.
