The refrigerator includes low-pressure-side and high-pressure-side evaporators, a path change device, and a controller. The path change device changes a refrigerant flow path between the low-pressure-side evaporator and the high-pressure-side evaporator, and has a simultaneous opening stage to simultaneously establish refrigerant flow paths respectively communicating with the low-pressure-side evaporator and high-pressure-side evaporator during the path change. The controller controls the path change device such that the simultaneous opening stage established when the refrigerant flow path is changed from the low-pressure-side evaporator to the high-pressure-side evaporator is longer than the simultaneous opening stage established when the refrigerant flow path is changed from the high-pressure-side evaporator to the low-pressure-side evaporator.

A power consumption prediction method and apparatus for a refrigerator having a defrosting heater is provided. In the power consumption prediction method, a defrosting timer cycle expressed as a cumulative value of an operation time of a compressor is set. The defrosting heater is activated to perform forced defrosting. The compressor is activated so that cooling cycles are completed several times. A defrosting time, a pause time and an operation time of the compressor and the energy consumed during each time are respectively detected. Based on the detected results, a unit run cycle of the refrigerator corresponding to the defrosting timer cycle is estimated. The energy consumption for a predetermined interval of time is estimated. Accordingly, the test time for power consumption prediction for the refrigerator can be shortened.

An opening time rate of the valve is changed based on modes of the storage chambers to control the amount of the refrigerant supplied to the storage chambers, thereby avoiding concentration of the refrigerant in one of the storage chambers and thus preventing refrigerant shortage in the other storage chambers. Also, left and right temperature deviation of each storage chamber is reduced, thereby achieving uniform temperature distribution of each storage chamber.
