摘要： A user may control automatic zooming and scrolling functionality with respect to a selected point in the document. A user may provide a first input to select an anchor point in the document. A user may then provide a second input to indicate a zooming level. In response to the second input, the document may zoom in or out of the document (depending on the input) and simultaneously perform scrolling to adjust the displayed center of the document towards the anchor point. The scrolling and zooming functions are performed automatically in response to the second input. In some embodiments, a custom zoom cursor may be displayed during a zoom state and change to indicate the zooming function performed. In some embodiments, the input device may be a pointing device such as a mouse, or another type of input device such as a keyboard, touch screen or other device.

摘要： Techniques are disclosed herein for re-ordering floating objects in an electronic document. An electronic document having floating objects is displayed in a first mode. Each floating object has an x-y location in the document and has a position on a z-order stack. In the first mode the floating objects are displayed in an x-y plane based on the z-order stack. Then, the electronic document is displayed in a second mode in which the electronic document is depicted as x-y plane slices. Each x-y plane slice corresponds to one position on the z-order stack. The x-y plane slices are displayed in particular order to depict the position of the floating objects on the z-order stack. A re-ordering of the x-y plane slices is displayed based on a request. Then, the electronic document is displayed in the first mode again based on the re-ordering of the x-y planes.

Visual and numeric indicators are assigned to all styles defined within the word processing application program. The visual indicator may be a unique color assigned and applied to each defined style. Upon launching the visual aids functionality, each style name in a styles pallet is displayed with its assigned visual and numeric indicators. The visual and numeric indicators are also displayed along side the text, with text of a given style being displayed with the visual and numeric indicator assigned to the style name. Thus, the visual aids allow a user to quickly ascertain which styles are applied to what text.

摘要： A graphical user interface is disclosed which allows users to interface with a computer operating system and/or application programs running in conjunction with the operating system. For an Office-style suite application program, a gallery bar may be displayed under the main task row of functions. The gallery bar has a first tier of tabs, where each tab corresponds to a high level formatting option associated with the current application program being used from the suite. When a user selects one of the first level tabs, a row of second level tabs is provided for the first selected tab. These second level tabs provide users with a simple range of functionality associated with the user's most commonly used formatting tasks. A gallery of thumbnail templates of various document types or other categories is also displayed in association with the second level options. These gallery thumbnails provide an easy and engaging manner for discovering and using advanced features in the Office suite of application programs.

摘要： Described is a system and method by which client programs such as desktop applications can use instant messaging functionality. An application program interface is provided that allows a client program (e.g., an application program) to interact with an instant messaging infrastructure, such as via event calls to initiate conversations, send messages and/or obtain presence information. This enables other programs to create new user experiences that integrate the messaging infrastructure, such as displaying presence, or enabling instant messages to be sent from within an application program. Document collaboration is also facilitated, by allowing users to send instant messages (or the document) to other users, including sending an instant message directly to a user associated with a specific comment or change to the document.
