Abstract: A connector for tie back liners has a tubular housing having at least one interior locking dog window. A setting chamber having a setting piston is located in the housing. A retraction chamber is in the housing, spaced axially from the setting chamber and having a retracting piston. Locking dogs are movably coupled in the locking dog window and axially spaced between the setting chamber and the retraction chamber. An actuating sleeve has a cam surface in engagement with the locking dogs and end portions with the setting piston and the retracting piston. Linking elements are in engagement with the locking dogs and a load shoulder located in the housing. The linking elements extend through linking element windows in the actuating sleeve. A shock absorber on the end of the housing absorbs shock when the connector lands on a wellhead.

Abstract: A process for providing a protective layer to an article. The process includes depositing a layer of material onto a surface of the article with a thermal spray process. Examples of thermal spray process include high velocity oxygen/air fuel, atmospheric plasma spray, and chemical vapor deposition. Coating methods, such as cold vapor deposition and physical vapor deposition, may also be used. The layer can then be bonded to the article by heating material in the layer adjacent its connection with the article. Bonding the layer to the article can be performed by irradiating the layer with a collimated light source, the layer irradiation can be applied concurrently with the thermal spray process

Abstract: A seal assembly includes a tubular member having a longitudinal axis and a tubular member seal profile. A metal seal ring having a proximal base and a distal end has a seal ring seal profile between the proximal base and distal end that contacts the tubular member seal profile. A distal annular recess is in one of the seal profiles, the distal annular recess being spaced axially from the distal end of the seal ring, defining a seal surface between the distal end of the seal ring and the distal annular recess that engages a seal surface of the tubular member seal profile. Abstract: A high pressure seal assembly configured for sealing contact with an opposing surface. The seal assembly comprises an annular seal body with a sealing surface on one side of the seal body. An end of the sealing surface includes a sealing face for sealing contact with the opposing surface. The sealing surface also includes at least one support point that contacts the opposing surface when the seal is placed in sealing contact. Strategically positioning the support point on the sealing surface selectively adjusts the sealing contact stress between the sealing face and the opposing surface.

Abstract: A tendon bottom connector assembly has a receptacle with a bore having an annular locking profile divided into segments by axially extending slots. The connector has a housing that inserts into and locks in the receptacle. The housing and receptacle have mating an anti-rotation elements. The lock ring has an outer surface with an annular locking profile divided into segments by axially extending slots. The lock ring is carried by the housing initially in the installation position with its segments aligned with the slots of the receptacle. This position allows the housing to be fully inserted into the receptacle. An ROV then rotates the ring from the installation position to a locked position, with the segments of the lock ring engaging the segments of the receptacle. Alternately, a split ring with one end fixed rotates the lock ring.

Abstract: A riser connector uses a box and upset pin connector threadform design having S-shaped load flanks that provide a variable load angles depending on the radial position along the engaged teeth. This design promotes a load path that changes with position along the axial length of the engaged thread, as well as increasing or decreasing external loads on the connector. The connector also varies radial distention of the pin from the box in a manner that is different from one thread to the next. The threadform uses a combination of thread cuts that vary in shape, pitch, and/or thread cone angle to provide load and stab flanks, as well as a load path, that vary from one axial end of the engaged thread to the other.

Abstract: A connector employs a segmented nut and a seal. The connector includes a housing with a bore having a bowl in it. A shaft extends through the bore, the shaft having exterior threads. Segments are carried on the bowl and move between a upper retracted position to an engaged position. A drive system slides the segments down and rotates them until threads from the segments align with the shaft threads. Each segment has a resilient seal which also has a portion of a thread for sealing against the threads of the shaft. An actuator will move the seals from an outboard position which occurs during rotation to a sealing position after rotation.

Abstract: A tube has a deflection section to allow it to align between two bores which are substantially coaxial. The tube has an inner wall, an outer wall, a first end and second end. The first end of the tube rigidly connects to the first member. The second end of the tube slidingly extends into the bore of the second member. The deflecting section has circumferential inner and outer grooves. These grooves extend in from the inner and outer walls of the tube. Each of the grooves has an axial thickness that is much less than the distance between the grooves. The axial thickness is also less than the radial dimension between the base of each groove and the adjacent wall of the tube. This provides substantial rigidity to the deflecitng section, yet allows slight deflection.

Abstract: A tubular connector system is disclosed for joining two pipe ends without the necessity of rotating the pipe ends. One pipe end is provided with an external thread and a second pipe end includes multiple thread lead entries. The tubular connector includes an internal thread at one end and internal multiple thread lead entries at the other end. The tubular connector is first threaded onto the first pipe. Next, the second pipe is stabbed into the second end of the tubular connector and the tubular connector is then rotated less than a single turn with respect to the second pipe to fully mate the tubular connector and the second pipe. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention the tubular connector is provided with resilient seals and a slot and tab arrangement to restrict rotation after make-up.
