Abstract:
A heat-fixing device includes a heat plate along which a transfer medium bearing thereon a toner image is advanced during which the toner image becomes fixed to the transfer medium by fusing, the heat plate including a plurality of heating sections arranged along the direction of advancement of said transfer medium each of the heating sections being provided with at least one electrical heater. The device also includes a control circuit for controlling the operation of the heaters such that, under a non-steady-condition, only selected ones of the heaters are set in operation thereby only the corresponding heating sections are positively heated; whereas, under a steady-state condition, all of the heaters are operated at the same time thereby maintaining all of the heating sections at a predetermined temperature.
Abstract:
An image transfer material separation apparatus for an electrophotographic copying machine, in which a leading edge of an image transfer material is curled in such a direction as to be separated from the surface of a photoconductor on which a latent electrostatic image or a visible image is formed, before the image transfer material is brought into close contact with the latent-electrostatic-image- or visible-image-bearing photoconductor, and after image transfer, an image transfer material separation member, disposed away from the surface of the photoconductor, is pushed by the curled leading edge portion of the image transfer material, whereby the image transfer material is guided in the direction different from the movement direction of the photoconductor and is separated from the surface of the photoconductor and is then transported, for instance, towards an image fixing station.
Abstract:
In an electrophotographic copying apparatus of the type utilizing a photoconductor which is rotated in a predetermined direction with an image transfer material in close contact therewith for transferring an electrostatic latent image or a visible image formed on the surface of the photoconductor to the image transfer material, an image transfer material separation and transportation apparatus capable of separating the image transfer material to which the image has been transported from the surface of the photoconductor and transporting the same in the direction of the photoconductor. One leading edge corner of the image transfer material is bent by a corner bending apparatus before the image transfer material is brought into close contact with the surface of the photoconductor. The bent corner is small in area and is formed in such a manner as to be turned up from the surface of the photoconductor by an image transfer material catching and separation member which is disposed in contact with or in close proximity to the surface of the photoconductor drum, and is very effective for leading the image transfer material into the image transfer material separation and transportation apparatus. The image transfer material separation and transportation apparatus has at least two rotating members which are capable of holding the image transfer material therebetween and separating the same from the surface of the photoconductor.
Abstract:
A sheet transportation and separation apparatus separates a sheet, which is moved in close contact with the surface of a member moving in synchronization with the sheet, from the surface of the moving member by deforming the corner of a leading edge of the sheet by a member operated by the edge of the sheet.
Abstract:
An apparatus for cleaning a photosensitive member comprising a cleaning roller formed of foamed resin which contacts the member and a pressure plate held in compressing abutment against the roller so as to extend in the direction of its forward rotation at the point of contact therebetween. Any residual powder on the photosensitive member is removed by the roller and retained in the pores formed in the roller surface. The powder retained in the pores is expelled by the resilience of the compressed surface of the roller as it is restored upon release from the pressure plate. The cleaning apparatus also comprises a system for recovering powder that is expelled from the roller surface, and a rotating helical coil disposed in a conveyance path for preventing solidification of the powder and for facilitating its conveyance.
Abstract:
The apparatus heat fixes a toner image on one surface of a wet-developed, image-carrying copy sheet while maintaining the opposite surface of the sheet in sliding contact with the surface of a heated plate. A portion of the heating surface is formed with a concave surface, or a curved surface having a positive curvature, and there is provided a guide roller for introducing the sheet onto the curved surface. When introduced onto the curved surface, the sheet achieves a good sliding contact with the heating surface by virtue of its resiliency without application of a back pressure thereto, thus accomplishing an efficient heat fixing without any accompanying degradation in the image quality.
Abstract:
A device comprising a sheet pick-off member maintained in pressing engagement with one marginal portion of a specific zone of the peripheral surface of a drum with which one marginal portion of each copy sheet is adapted to be brought into engagement, and sheet guide means for guiding the leading end portion of each copy sheet to move away from the drum after being picked off the peripheral surface of the drum by the sheet pick-off member, so that each copy sheet adhering to the peripheral surface of the drum can be stripped. The device also comprises a sheet presser member arranged parallel to the sheet pick-off member and interposed between the sheet pick-off member and the other marginal portion of the peripheral surface of the drum so as to force against the peripheral surface of the drum the marginal portion of the sheet superposed on the sheet pick-off member.

Abstract:
An image fixing method for use in a wet-type electrophotographic copying machine is disclosed, which comprises the steps of: (1) developing a latent electrostatic image formed on an electrophotographic photoconductor element to a visible toner image by use of a developer comprising a thermal cross-linking toner and a carrier liquid, (2) transferring the visible toner image to a transfer sheet having an oil absorption coefficient .alpha. of 1.0.times.10.sup.-2 cm/sec or more, which is assessed by dividing the thickness of the transfer sheet by the time required for a drop of the carrier liquid placed on the front side of the transfer sheet to spread to a diameter of 1 cm on the back side of the transfer sheet, to form a transferred image on the transfer sheet, and (3) fixing the transferred image to the transfer sheet by bringing a heat application means into direct contact with the transferred image.
