    摘要: In organic photoconductors (OPC's) for electrophotography, a barrier layer is placed on top of the OPC. The barrier may have 2 layers--1, an electron withdrawing layer on top of the OPC; and,--2, an electron donating layer on top of the electron withdrawing layer. The barrier layer comprises: 1. a crosslinked polymer binder; 2. a charge injection prohibiter molecule, and optionally; 3. an electron withdrawing molecule. This formulation has resulted in a long-life OPC with more than 50,000 good cycles at high severity test conditions. The OPC had not only long life during continuous use, but also long shelf life and long on-again/off-again operation life.

    摘要: An electrophotographic coating composition comprising finely-divided photoconductive perylene pigment dispersed in a solvent solution of polymeric binder is prepared by the steps of (1) milling a perylene pigment with milling media comprising inorganic salt and non-conducting particles under shear conditions in the substantial absence of the solvent to provide pigment having a particle size up to 0.2 micrometer, (2) continuing the milling at higher shear at a temperature up to about 50.degree. C., to achieve a perceptible color change of the pigment particles, (3) rapidly reducing the temperature of the milled pigment by at least 10.degree. C., (4) separating the milled pigment from the media and (5) mixing the milled pigment with the solvent solution of polymeric binder to form the coating composition. A very high degree of dispersion of photoconductive perylene pigment in solvent solution of polymeric binder is achieved by this method.

    摘要: Water-fastness in aqueous ink-jet inks containing water-soluble dyes is achieved by using a specific ionic species having a charge opposite to that on the dye molecule. Anionic dyes typically contain sulfonate (or carboxylate) anionic groups. Using at least one specific ionic species of opposite charge, specifically, phosphonium salts, causes the colorant components to “crash” or precipitate out of the water-based ink onto the print medium due to the formation of a suitable charge complex between the ionic parts of the dye and the opposite charge of the counter-ion species. Other positively charged salts, such as quaternary ammonium salts, carbonium salts, iodonium salts, sulfonium salts, and pyrillium salts may be used to improve aqueous dispersion stability and thus printability. Such additional cationic salt partially replaces the phosphonium salt(s). Alternatively, certain surfactants, such as aromatic ethoxylates, polyethylene oxide ethers, or polypropylene oxide ethers may be used to improve print quality.

    摘要: Embodiments of photoconductors and methods of making photoconductors for electophotography are described, each embodiment comprising a complex between metal oxide phthalocyanine compound(s) and hydroxy compound(s). A metal oxide phthalocyanine pigment exhibits extended photoresponse between 850 nm and 1000 nm when it is milled with a specific hydroxy binder, which preferably includes a modified poly-vinyl butyral binder containing a --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OH unit, a cyclohexanol unit, or another hydroxy unit. Optionally, hydroxy solvents or other hydroxy additives may also be included. Preferably, the pigment is dehydrated or hydroxy-starved before milling with the binder and solvents. The metal oxide phthalocyanine pigments and the hydroxy groups form a complex which extends the photo-response of an OPC to wavelengths beyond about 850 nm, in order to achieve higher xerographic speed with higher resolution.
