Abstract: A device which emits a rotating beam of collimated light, preferably a laser source assembly, is mounted at a level which has a predetermined relationship to the level desired for a suspended ceiling. A target is placed on a ceiling panel supporting member and the member is elevated until the target is intercepted by the light beam at a predetermined line on the target. At this point, the ceiling supporting member is fixed in place. When it is desirable to bend the supporting wires before the ceiling supporting members are installed, the target may be moved along adjacent the wire and the wire bent at a given distance from the point where the light beam intercepts the target.

Abstract: A laser generator is mounted on a conventional transit for rotation about a vertical axis. A crank is interconnected at one end to the support structure of the transit and at its other end to the drive of an electric motor affixed to the transit and laser generator. Operation of the motor and crank causes rotational and reciprocal movement of the transit and generator about an axis to develop a datum plane of light. A control knob provides grade adjustment and is linked to a digital counter to provide a visual readout of the grade.

Abstract: This disclosure describes a method and apparatus for laying a pipeline in which the pipes are aligned along a preselected path with a collimated light beam, preferably according to the methods of U.S. Pat. Nos. 3,116,557 and 3,279,070. Air is forced through the pipeline in a helical spiral to prevent gases from building up within the pipeline as the pipes are being laid. A blower unit coupled to an outlet nozzle having a clamp for clamping the nozzle to the pipe at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the pipe is provided for this purpose.

Abstract: A target for alignment of pipes and the like about a beam of light projected along a predetermined axis. The target includes a light-sensing means positioned at one end of the pipe to intercept and detect the light beam. The sensing means through suitable electronic circuitry, provides an input to a readout indicator. In a preferred embodiment, the indicator includes a plurality of incandescent bulbs arranged in a pattern corresponding to the pattern of the sensing elements. Movement of the pipe and target about the light beam is detected by the sensors and visually displayed by the indicator. In an alternate embodiment, the indicator provides an audible signal to indicate the relative position of the light source with the sensors.

Abstract: A plurality of light sensitive cells are positioned on a target face for receiving a moving beam of light from a light beam generator. The generator develops a datum plane of light. The cells are operatively associated with an electric circuitry connected to lights for translating visually whether the target is high, centered or low relative to the plane of light generated by the oscillating laser beam. The cells include portions offset from the other to permit independent or simultaneous interception thereof by the plane of light. The target by means of the light beam designates or depicts its position with respect to the plane of light intercepting the target either intermediate each cell, or on one or more of said cells. The target face is rotatable about an axis to adjust the positions of the cells relative to the plane of projected light thus providing a means for varying the high, centered or low reading produced by the target.
