    摘要: Systems and methods for improved ring laser gyroscope devices through mix ratio optimization are provided. In one embodiment, a ring laser gyroscope device comprises: a laser block assembly having a cavity therein that defines a ring shaped laser beam path around the laser block assembly, the cavity containing a fill gas mixture comprising Helium and Neon, wherein the laser block assembly is characterized as having a Neon depletion life limiter; and a readout assembly optically coupled to the laser block assembly. The readout assembly outputs a laser intensity monitor (LIM) voltage that represents optical energy within the cavity. The fill gas mixture has a Helium to Neon ratio richer in Neon than a ratio that would produce a peak LIM voltage from the readout assembly.

    摘要: A system, circuit and method are disclosed for operating a Ring Laser Gyroscope (RLG) off-mode-peak to avoid exciting undesirable transverse modes. An alternate PLC operating point can be used to bias the optical path length of the RLG to an appropriate side of an ideal integer number of wavelengths, and thus avoid exciting the undesirable transverse modes. Although this alternate PLC operating point is not perfect with respect to establishing an integer number of wavelengths, this operation provides acceptable performance of the RLG's (in particular, short length path RLG's), and acceptable margin can be established relative to variations in the PLC set points involved.

The apparatus includes a two stage gain adjuster which produces a gain adjusted signal, a phase shifter which converts the gain adjusted signal into two gain adjusted output signals separated in phase by 90 degrees, a power estimation unit to estimate the power of the gain adjusted signal, and an adjusting unit to adjust a gain of the gain adjuster according to a power estimate from the power estimation unit and a desired output signal power.
