摘要： The present invention is intended to speed up rendering that is performed in the course of displaying a document that contains both icons and characters. A character display device that displays a document containing both icons and characters includes: a searching unit that searches the position in the document where an icon appears, a counter unit that counts the number of characters which successively appear until the position where the icon appears searched by the searching unit; and a rendering unit that renders the same number of characters, which successively appear, as the number of characters counted by the counter after designating the attributes shared by the characters, and then renders the icon after designating the attributes of the icon.

An electronic device (portable terminal apparatus) including a display function in a rotatable and/or openable/closable case includes a displaying unit that displays a vertically elongated vertical screen or a horizontally elongated horizontal screen and a controlling unit (CPU) that changes screen layouts correspondingly to the vertical screen or the horizontal screen displayed on the displaying unit. The change in the screen layout corresponding to the vertical screen or the horizontal screen includes a change in arrangement of icons.

摘要： A spark plug for an internal combustion engine is disclosed. A semiconductor material having a resistance of 5.times.10.sup.2 -5.times.10.sup.4 M.OMEGA./mm is coated or baked in the form of a band on the peripheral surface of a basal part of a leg portion of an insulator of the spark plug. Preferably, at least the basal part of the leg portion, including the band, is covered with a water-repellant insulating coating. An inner wall of a metal shell of the spark plug is desirably coated with a water-repellant material at an area facing at least the peripheral surface of the basal part of the leg portion of the insulator.

摘要： A method for producing a spark plug, the spark plug comprising a center electrode, a metal shell and an alumina ceramic insulator disposed between the center electrode and the metal shell, wherein at least part of the surface of the insulator is covered with a glaze layer comprising oxides, the method comprising the steps of: preparing a coated glaze powder so that a surface of each particle of a glaze powder is covered by an elution-suppressing coating layer, the elution-suppressing coating layer suppressing an elution of water soluble component that is contained in each particle of the glaze powder; preparing a glaze slurry by suspending the glaze powder in a water solvent; applying the glaze slurry to a surface of the insulator so as to form a glaze powder-deposited layer; and baking the glaze powder-deposited layer to the surface of the insulator to form the glaze layer by heating the glaze powder-deposited layer.
