Preferably the gasket includes a single layer carrier onto which a resilient sealing material is applied to at least portions of the carrier, such as by screen printing, for example. The gasket can be used advantageously in sealing applications such as those for cylinder heads and blocks, intake or exhaust manifolds, piping or other fluid conveying devices, housings, enclosures, or other situations where relative movement can occur between the members to be sealed to each other.

摘要： A head gasket comprising a laminate, metallic core and fiber-elastomer facing layers on each major surface of the core and defining a plurality of combustion openings, oil and water holes and bolt holes. A thin shim is disposed on one of the facing layers. The shim has arcuate elements lying adjacent to each of a pair of adjacent combustion openings. U-shaped armors at each combustion opening have legs overlapping the edges of the facing layers and portions of the shim elements adjacent to the edges of the combustion openings, with the shim elements extending radially outwardly beyond the armor legs. When the armors, shim and facing layer are precompressed after assembly and during the manufacturing process, the facing layer is densified through a reduction in thickness under the armor, is greatly densified under the armor and shim through a reduction in thickness by approximately the thickness of the shim, and densified in proportion to the shim thickness where the shim elements extend radially outwardly beyond the legs. The gasket is substantially unreduced in thickness radially beyond the shim and armor.

摘要： An asymmetric bead formed in a gasket is provided. The gasket defines a plane. The bead includes a first half emboss portion positioned at a first angle to the plane of the gasket. A bead top portion is positioned parallel to the plane of the gasket and is connected to the first half emboss portion. A second half emboss portion is positioned at a second angle to the plane of the gasket and is connected to the bead top portion. The first angle is greater than the second angle so that the length of the first half emboss portion is shorter than the second half emboss portion and therefore, has a smaller surface area being acted on by a higher pressure fluid on the first half emboss portion so that the forces acting on the first and second half emboss portions are equalized.
