    摘要: A double-sided ball end mill includes a body having a generally hemispherical forward end portion and a rearward end portion. The forward end portion includes insert-receiving pockets and chip pockets. A cutting insert can be mounted within each insert-receiving pocket. The cutting insert includes a first substantially planar surface, a second substantially planar surface, a first curvilinear side surface, a second curvilinear side surface, a first pair of cutting edges formed at an intersection between the first substantially planar surface and the first and second curvilinear side surfaces, and a second pair of cutting edges formed at an intersection between the second substantially planar surface and the first and second curvilinear side surfaces. The first and second planar surfaces are substantially parallel to each other, and the cutting insert is mirror symmetric about all three axes.

    摘要: A clamping tool holder includes a tool holder body and a clamp for clamping a cutting insert. The clamp causes the cutting insert to press against the bottom and the side walls of an insert-receiving pocket of the tool holder body. The tool holder body has an inclined surface sloping inward in a direction away from the insert-receiving pocket. The clamp has an inclined surface that acts as a ramp with the inclined surface of the tool holder body. A guide pin prevents the clamp from twisting during tightening or loosening of the clamp. When a clamp screw is tightened, a nub of the clamp engages only an inside rearward surface of a mounting bore of the insert along a line of contact and the top surface of the cutting insert. In addition, only a forward lower face of a head portion of the clamp screw engages a top surface of the clamp.

    摘要: An improved piston-type vacuum pump comprises a reciprocating piston disposed within a cylinder having a proximal end and a distal end, an inlet port formed in the side of the cylinder near the proximal end, and a spring-biased outlet valve, such as a poppet valve or a rocker valve, disposed at the distal end of the cylinder. The piston stroke is configured to provide zero or negative clearance between the piston head and the face of the outlet valve at the end of the compression stroke. The piston reciprocates within the cylinder from a first position wherein the surface of the piston head is proximal of the inlet port, to a second position wherein the surface of the piston head is beyond the distal end of the cylinder, so as to contact the face of the outlet valve in its open position. The piston top and outlet valve face remain in contact until the piston has retracted into the distal end of the cylinder, allowing the valve to seal the distal end of the cylinder prior to the beginning of the expansion stroke, such that there is substantially no dead volume within the cylinder at the beginning of the expansion stroke.
