Abstract: A system for covering fasteners that are provided at an exterior building wall for mounting storm panels. The system includes cover plates that are located adjacent to the fasteners. The cover plates are mounted so as to be pivotable about one side of a mounting track. This permits the cover plates to pivot between a closed (use) position for covering the track and fasteners, and an open (non-use) position for permitting installation of storm panels. The cover plates can be painted in a variety of colors to match the building wall or the shutters, which permits the covers to blend into the exterior finish of the building. Thus, when the storm panels are removed, the present system conveniently covers the unattractive and conspicuous fasteners in an attractive manner.

Abstract: A retractable screen device for a framed opening employing a frame track fastened to each side support of the framed opening; the frame track forming a compartment for receipt of a guide rail with a decompression gasket positioned between the frame track and the guide rail. A screen mounted on a horizontally disposed rotatable shaft secured to a header of the opening has laterally opposed side edges with an elongated flexible protrusion secured along the length of each side edge. The guide rail receives and guides the screen protrusion along a longitudinal direction, and the decompression gasket allows the guide rail to traverse the frame track side walls to permit the screen to flex while maintaining a consistent tension on the screen. Vertical tension adjustment is provided by use of a biasing member coupled to the center axle that activates when the screen is deployed.

Abstract: A screen attachment formed from a track having a centrally disposed chamber for receipt of a base member constructed and arranged to receive a beaded edge of a flexible hurricane screen. The base member employs an opening having a shaped entry. The base member is movable between a contracted position to an expanded position, wherein the shaped entry is deformed to cause a pinching of the beaded edge. The base member includes an expansion member to maintain the base member in a contracted position when possible. A clip can be added to support and reinforce a zipper beaded edge which allows an operator to raise a base slat well into an upper housing without the zipper exiting the track.

Abstract: A spring loaded screen fabric retention device in the form of a motor and spring combination for a hurricane screen fabric. The combination overcomes the change in torque for use with a motor driven hurricane screen fabric system, allowing the motor to operate if there is a change in the initial torque which otherwise will interrupt motor operation. The device allows vertical deployment of screen fabric when the motor is idle, which prevents the base slat from lifting during high wind loads. A spring torque between 100% to 150% of the curtain weight is maintained on the tubular motor used for lifting and deploying of the hurricane screen fabric.
