To depict test objects using electromagnetic waves, particularly to check people for suspicious articles, an apparatus is provided having: an antenna which emits electromagnetic waves, particularly millimetric waves, means for concentrating the emitted waves in three dimensions, and means for manipulating the waves at the point of high concentration such that this point serves as a moving virtual antenna for SAR evaluation. Whereby the means for three-dimensional concentration contain a rotatably mounted, focusing or defocusing, quasi-optical element and the means for manipulating the waves at the point of high concentration contain a reflector. In accordance with the invention, the quasi-optical element and the reflector are rotatably mounted about a common rotary axis and at the same angular velocity.

In order to allow as large an area as possible to be imaged with high resolution in a short time, the phase centres of the transmitting and receiving antennas are, according to the invention, moved on a circular path parallel to the respective digital focus planes of the imaging system, and are at the same time shifted linearly in a further direction parallel to the respective focus plane. The method can be used for monitoring people for suspicious objects, for example for monitoring airline passengers at an airport.

A viewing direction of the transmitting area and a direction of reception of the receiving area extend at an angle of 15° to 70°, preferably 20° to 35° to the longitudinal axis of the test object. For evaluation of the scattered waves in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the test object, a pulse radar or FMCW radar technology is used, and for evaluation at an angle to the longitudinal axis, SAR technology is used.

A base transceiver station for a radio communication system comprises a transmitter unit (TU), a receiver unit (RU) and a transmit path between the transmitter unit (TU) and an antenna. The receiver unit (RU) determines output data from received signals and the transmitter unit (TU) converts input data into transmitted signals and pre-distorts the transmitted signals using at least one compensation value. The base transceiver station comprises also a branching unit for transferring at least a portion of a transmitted signal from the transmit path to the receiver unit (RU) and a processing unit (PU) which is adapted to receive a representation of the input data and the output data. The processing unit (PU) compares the input data to the output data, determines a first compensation value for the pre-distortion according to the comparison and updates the compensation value of the transmitter unit (TU) with the first compensation value. Methods and computer programs embodying the invention are also described.

A transmission timing adjustment unit (34) uses the power modulation measurement or comparison for adjusting timing of transmission of signals for the plural RF transmission paths for obtaining a desired time alignment for the plural RF transmission paths.
