摘要: A dually sealable, non-leaking vial for shipping liquid radioactive materials, particularly sterile radioactive materials, and other sterile liquid materials in which the mouth of the vial, as shipped, is sealed by a needle pierceable septum seal and in which a threaded cap is located and held over the septum seal and mouth with the threads thereby held out of engagement with mating threads on the vial by the septum seal. However, upon removal of the sepum seal after shipment, the threads of the cap mate with the threads of the vial whereby the cap can be removably threaded tightly over the mouth to seal it. The capped and septum-sealed loaded vial is placed in a heat shrinkable plastic envelope having a bottom end wall and an upstanding cylindrical wall of greater height than the capped, septum-sealed vial and of lesser thickness than the bottom end wall and the envelope is heat shrunk circumferentially, tightly and sealably around the capped septum-sealed vial with the upper part of the envelope being shrunk circumferentially and downwardly tightly over the margin of the upper surface of the cap to securely seal the capped septum-sealed vial.

摘要: A method and system for filling a vial with an eluate containing a radionuclide by coupling a vial containing a prepackaged amount of eluant to both an inlet to a radionuclide generator column and a vent outlet and coupling an evacuated vial to an outlet from the radionuclide column. The method and system may utilize a filter which includes an eluate repellent portion.

摘要: A technique for clinically measuring the amount of a component, such as thyroxine, in a biological fluid, such as serum, of the type in which the amount of such component bound to a binding agent therefor, such as a protein, is measured by measuring the capacity of the binding agent to bind a tracer labeled compound and in which such capacity is measured by the use of a solid particulate adsorbent or absorbent for selectively adsorbing or absorbing the unbound tracer labeled compound from a liquid containing the same together with the bound tracer labeled compound and the bound component, the improvement comprising mixing the solid adsorbent and liquid in a container in which the solid particulate adsorbent is secured to the upper end thereof and the liquid is contained in the lower end, the mixing being carried out by inversion of the container. By this procedure, it is possible to simultaneously mix the solids and liquids of a plurality of specimens and controls and to thereby simultaneously incubate and centrifuge them to insure that all specimens and controls are subjected to identical conditions to thereby minimize errors and the time required to carry out such measurements. The compounds used for carrying out the tests may be conveniently stored and shipped in the same container in which mixing, incubation, centrifuging and tracer measurement are carried out and which is in the form of a transparent or translucent, relatively rigid, tubular vial of a molded resin made up of two parts, in one of which is secured the adsorbent and in the other of which is located the liquid. During shipment and storage one part functions as a cap for the other, which is also capped and when the test is to be carried out, the parts are disassembled and reassembled with the open mouths of the two parts mated together to form a single chamber and with the solids-containing part located above the liquid-containing part so that the solids secured in the upper part do not come in contact with the liquid in the lower part until the container is inverted.

摘要: A device and method for dispensing a pre-measured amount of gas, such as a radioactive gas, contained in a sealed vial having a pierceable septum. A plurality of such vials are stored in an end-to-end relationship in a shielded tubular storage means. The dispensing device includes a dispenser portion having a pair of needles respectively connected to a gas dispensing adapter and displacement fluid intake adapter. One of the sealed vials is removed from the storage means and retained in a holder which is then inserted into the dispenser portion so that the septum of the vial is in a position opposite the ends of the needles. The vial is moved within the holder toward the needles so that the septum is pierced by the latter. Means are provided for injecting a displacement fluid, which in a particular embodiment may be air, into the vial through the fluid intake adapter and the needle connected thereto, thereby forcing the radioactive gas out from the vial through the other needle to the gas dispensing adapter for use in an appropriate instrument which, for example, may be a breathing apparatus, such as an oral syringe or a spirometer.
