    Abstract: A hand vacuum cleaner has a cyclone assembly comprising a cyclone and a dirt collection chamber. The cyclone assembly has a cyclone assembly axis extending centrally between a front end of the cyclone assembly and a rear end of the cyclone assembly. The cyclone has a horizontally extending cyclone axis and the dirt collection chamber has a lower end which is at a lower elevation than a lower end of the cyclone chamber. A line that extends in a common direction with the cyclone assembly axis intersects the dirt collection chamber at an elevation below the cyclone chamber, a pre-motor filter and a handle of the hand vacuum cleaner.

    Abstract: An apparatus comprising a surface cleaning apparatus and a docking station is provided. The surface cleaning apparatus comprises a surface cleaning apparatus air flow path; a suction motor; and an air treatment member. The air treatment member comprises a first stage air treatment chamber, a stationary portion and a moveable portion. The moveable portion is moveably mounted by a mount between a closed position in which the first stage air treatment chamber is closed and an open position in which the first stage air treatment chamber is open. The docking station comprises a docking station air flow path and a docking interface. The docking interface comprises wall portions and a docking interface perimeter extending around the wall portions. When the air treatment member is docked with the docking station, the docking interface perimeter contacts the stationary portion of the air treatment member and a closed volume is provided.

    Abstract: A docking station for a surface cleaning apparatus comprises a docking station air inlet that is connectable in fluid flow communication with the dirt collection region of the surface cleaning apparatus. An air flow path extends from the docking station air inlet to a docking station air outlet. A first cyclonic stage comprises a cyclone chamber and a docking station dirt collection region. The cyclone chamber has a cyclone chamber air inlet, a cyclone chamber air outlet and a cyclone axis of rotation, wherein, when the docking station is placed on a horizontal surface and is in operation, the cyclone axis of rotation extends generally vertically. The first cyclonic stage comprises a first stage air treatment chamber of the docking station.

    Abstract: A surface cleaning apparatus comprises a surface cleaning head, an upright section moveably mounted to the surface cleaning head and a portable cleaning unit. The upright section has an upflow duct having a downstream air outlet and the portable cleaning unit is removably mounted to the downstream air outlet. The portable cleaning unit comprising a nozzle, a cyclone, an energy storage member, a suction motor, a clean air outlet and a portable cleaning unit air flow path extending from the nozzle to the clean air outlet. A power cord is removably connectable to the surface cleaning apparatus. When the portable cleaning unit is switched on and when the portable cleaning unit is removed from the upright section, the suction motor is operable on power provided by the energy storage member.

    Abstract: A hand vacuum cleaner has a cyclone provided in the air flow path and a dirt collection chamber external to the cyclone. The cyclone air inlet and the cyclone air outlet are located at the cyclone chamber rear end and the dirt outlet is located at the cyclone chamber front end. When the upper end of the hand vacuum cleaner is positioned above the lower end of the hand vacuum cleaner, the central longitudinally extending axis of the cyclone is oriented generally horizontally, the cyclone air inlet is located at a lower end of the cyclone and the dirt outlet is located at an upper end of the cyclone.

    Abstract: A hand vacuum cleaner has a housing comprising a first portion that houses a suction motor. A cyclone unit is positioned in an air flow passage upstream from the suction motor. The cyclone unit comprises a cyclone and a dirt collection region that is positioned forward of the cyclone. The cyclone unit front end has an openable door. The cyclone air outlet comprises an assembly which includes a screen. The assembly is moveable relative to the cyclone unit sidewall in a common direction with the cyclone axis of rotation whereby the assembly and the sidewall are separable from each other in a forward direction.

    Abstract: A stick surface cleaning apparatus comprises a surface cleaning head, which has a dirty air inlet and a surface cleaning head air outlet, and a wand that is moveable between an upright storage position and a reclined in use position. When the wand is mounted to the surface cleaning head and in the upright storage position, the wand has a lower end and an axially spaced apart upper end, a wand axis extending between the lower end and the upper end and a longitudinally extending sidewall, wherein the wand comprises an air treatment member having an air inlet at the lower end of the wand, an air outlet positioned above the air inlet of the air treatment member and a dirt collection region whereby, in operation, dirt separated from air flowing through the wand is collected in the dirt collection region.
