The method entails removing the oxidation and corrosion products from the shroud segment, removing preexisting coating materials, applying a material compatible with the shroud segment substrate material, machining the surface, applying a corrosion-resistant, oxidation-resistant and rub-compliant material to the shroud segment using a HVOF process, machining the shroud segment to preselected dimensions and applying an aluminide coating for improved oxidation and corrosion resistance of the repaired surfaces.

    摘要: A process for simultaneously vapor phase aluminizing nickel-base and cobalt-base superalloys within a single process chamber using the same aluminum donor and activator, to yield diffusion aluminide coatings of approximately equal thickness. The process entails the use of an aluminum donor containing about 50 to about 60 weight percent aluminum, and an aluminum fluoride activator present in an amount of at least 1 gram per liter of coating chamber volume. Nickel-base and cobalt-base superalloys are simultaneously vapor phase aluminized for 4.5 to 5.5 hours at a temperature of about 1900.degree. F. to about 1950.degree. F. in an inert or reducing atmosphere. With these materials and process parameters, diffusion aluminide coatings are developed on both superalloys whose thicknesses do not differ from each other by more than about 30%.

    摘要: A method of removing metallic compositions, such as abradable rub coatings, environmental coatings, bond coats and braze alloys, from the surface of a cobalt-base substrate, such as turbine shrouds and vanes of gas turbine engines. The method is particularly suited for the removal of nickel-base braze alloys and aluminum-containing coatings, the latter of which includes abradable MCrAlY coatings and environmentally-protective diffusion aluminide coatings. The process generally entails contacting such metallic compositions with an aqueous solution containing hydrochloric acid and nitric acid and at a solution temperature of about 130.degree. F. to about 180.degree. F. The solution completely removes nickel-base alloys and aluminum-containing compositions from a cobalt-base substrate without removal or damage to the underlying substrate.

    摘要: A process optimization system and method uses a computer network, particularly the Internet, to standardize a process performed at a number of geographically separated locations while assuring optimal use of available process technology. The system includes at least one central server computer system and at least one client-user computer station at each location. Data relating to the process is inputted into the server computer system using any one of the client-user computer stations. The server computer system the uses the data to determine an optimal approach to the process and displays the optimal approach on the client-user computer station used to input the data.

    摘要: Apparatus and method to improve vapor phase diffusion coating of articles. The apparatus provides a barrier to segregate the portion of the article requiring coating from the portion of the article not requiring coating. The fixture is reusable, being unaffected by the coating gases. The fixture reduces the exposure of the coating gases with the portion of the article not requiring coating. By use of an optional seal, the portion of the article not requiring coating can be isolated from the coating gases.
