    摘要: This invention is directed to a method and associated apparatus for allowing the carriage shafts of a pen plotter to be mounted and aligned quickly and accurately without the introduction of any bending stresses or intra-shaft misalignment. The shafts have conical indentations in the ends thereof. Laterally slidable end caps are bolted over the shaft ends and bolted in place in proper alignment with the shafts. An end cap on one end of the shafts has conical projections in the bottoms of bores therein aligned with and fitting into the shaft ends. An end cap on the other end of the shafts has bolts with conical ends threaded through the bottoms of bores therein aligned with and fitting into the shaft ends. The bolts through the end cap are tightened to hold the shafts in place. An alignment fixture holds the shafts in proper alignment while the end caps are aligned and tightened.

    摘要: A pair of electrical switches are arranged to be engaged by a respective pivoted carriage member, to indicate the end of tape in correlation with the diameter of a tape reel mounted on each carriage member. Each switch is generally contained within a housing having a longitudinal axis. A pair of electrical contacts, each interconnected to the circuitry of the system, are positioned within the housing adjacent to the axis. A plunger is adapted to be operable along the longitudinal axis between the two contacts and has one end extending from the housing to act as an actuator. A yoke has a base threadedly secured to the plunger and has a body extending parallel with the plunger within the housing. An elastic shorting member is partially compressed and positioned within the body of the yoke. The elastic shorting member is adapted to engage the electrical contacts to conduct electricity through the switch. A compression spring is used to urge the elastic shorting member away from the electrical contacts whereby the switch will be actuated by the position of the plunger which corresponds to a desired position of the respective carriage member.

    摘要: A tape cassette loading mechanism for receiving a hinged cassette containing a tape supply reel and for automatically opening the cassette and advancing the supply reel into an operative position. The mechanism is used with tape transport apparatus of the type having supply and take-up reels driven by surface engagement with a capstan. A pair of pivot arms engage opposite halves of the cassette and pivot apart to open the cassette. A motor-driven lead nut mechanism rotatively drives a control arm to move the pivot arms and thereby open the cassette, and to simultaneously advance the supply reel along an arcuate path into the operative position in engagement with the capstan. The pivot arms simultaneously move the cassette in a lateral direction to match the lateral component of the advancing movement of the supply reel, thereby preventing the opened cassette from physically interfering with the advancing reel.

    摘要: In a pen plotter having a plotting head carrying one half of a pen exchanging mechanism including a holding plate pivotally attached to a plotting head for pivotal movement to raise and lower a pen gripped therein and carried thereby a spring-biased gripping finger pivotally carried by the holding plate for releasably holding a pen, this is a dual-function sensing apparatus for providing a single output signal indicating pen presence and pen up/down position. There is an optical sensor comprising a light source and a light detector separated from the light source by a space and having a sensing surface upon which a beam of light impinges and wherein the level of signal output is a function of the amount of light impinging on the sensing surface. There is a light blocking blade for selectively blocking portions of the beam of light and an activation linkage connected between the gripping finger and the light blocking blade for selectively blocking portions of the beam of light with the light blocking blade so that with no pen being held the signal output from the light detector is a first possible value, with a pen being held in a lowered position the signal output is a second possible value, and with a pen being held in a raised position the signal output is a third possible value.
