摘要: A method, base station, and wireless communication system provide seamless mobility in a time division duplex system. The method includes determining a mobility capability of the wireless communication device (104). In response to determining that the mobility capability of the wireless communication device (104) may involve a network address change for a new sub-network (204), an identification of at least one neighboring base station (208) is provided to the wireless communication device (104) that the wireless communication can select to be handed into.

摘要: Various embodiments are described for facilitating network mobility in communication networks with an aim toward enhancing the scalability of MIP. Generally, in most of these embodiments, a network node (121) sends a message to a network device (131) to establish a data path for a remote unit (101) served by the network node. This message comprises a source link layer address which is associated with the remote unit. The message may or may not be sent in response to receiving signaling to facilitate wireless connectivity of a remote unit via the network node. In addition, the network device to which the message is sent may be an access router (AR) or a foreign agent (FA) of the remote unit.

摘要: A method, system and apparatus for creating a reverse tunnel in a communication system is provided. The method includes obtaining an authentication key from an entity in the communication system. The method further includes manipulating a registration request message (402) sent by a mobile station (106) to a local agent (110) at an external agent (112) and re-calculating a digital signature of the registration request message using the authentication key. This manipulation is performed by using the authentication key. Thereafter, the registration request message is sent (516) from the external agent to the local agent for creating the reverse tunnel.

摘要: One determines (101, 102) that a given wireless mobile two-way communications platform is updating its network location (using, for example, an 802.16(e)-compatible protocol) at a time when there is no downlink traffic to provide to the platform and at a time when the platform should conduct at least one of an authenticator relocation process and an Internet Protocol address renewal process. In response to such determinations, one then automatically provides (103) to the platform, as part of updating the network location for the platform, an indication (such as, for example, a downlink traffic pending (DTP) flag) that the platform has pending downlink traffic notwithstanding that there is, in fact, no downlink traffic to provide to the wireless mobile two-way communications platform. Subsequent to this, one can then automatically cause (104) the platform to effect at least one of the authenticator relocation process and the Internet Protocol address renewal process.

摘要: A method (500) and a system (300) for implementing point-to-point communications. The method can include identifying at least a first portion (348, 350) of a prefix (344, 346) of a network address, the prefix corresponding to a particular topological region (326, 328) of a communications network (302). The method further can include generating a unique prefix (360, 362) by updating the prefix with an identifier (356, 358) that is unique within the topological region of the communications network, and assigning the unique prefix to a node (304-314) of the communications network.

摘要: A method, system, and apparatus for creating an Internet Protocol (IP) based reverse tunnel is described. The method includes receiving at an external agent (112) a registration request message from a mobile station (106). The method further includes sending from the external agent, an extension with the registration request message indicating support for creation of the reverse tunnel. Further, the method includes sending an extension together with registration reply from the local agent (110) to the external agent allowing the creation of the reverse tunnel if the extension from the external agent indicates that the reverse tunnel is supported by the external agent.

摘要: A packet data communication system (100) that includes a plurality of communication units and a fixed infrastructure comprising a packet data routing system (101, 103) and a plurality of base sites (111-119), emloys a method and apparatus for paging a communication unit (110). The fixed infrastructure (101, 103, 111-119) transmits a paging message to a communication unit (110) of the plurality of communication units. In response to receiving the paging message, the communication unit (110) transmits an acknowledgment. If the fixed infrastructure (101, 103, 111-119) fails to receive the acknowledgment within a certain waiting period, the fixed infrastructure (101, 103, 111-119) waits at least until the expiration of a backoff period before again transmitting a paging message, wherein the length of time of the backoff period is based on a metric of known system behavioral patterns.
