The present invention provides a method and apparatus for processing a received television signal comprising one of a first type of television signal and a second type of television signal. Specifically, the method comprises amplifying the received television signal in response to a control signal. If the received television signal comprises the first type of television signal, the RF amplifier gain is reduced when the received television signal exceeds a first signal level. If the received television signal comprises the second type of television signal, the RF amplifier gain is reduced when the received television signal exceeds a second signal level. The second signal level is greater than the first signal level. A concomitant apparatus is also provided. As the first signal level is lower for the first type of television signal, reception of the first type of television signal is improved.

The signal processing arrangement includes a signal source for providing one of digital and analog IF signals, a first SAW filter having an output for filtering the IF signal, digital signal processing circuitry coupled to the output for processing a filtered digital IF signal, and analog signal processing circuitry coupled to the output for processing which includes filtering a filtered analog signal.

A method of recovering plastic material from phonograph record center sections and making plastic phonograph records incorporating the recovered material, comprising the steps of:A. recovering the plastic material from the center portions of discarded phonograph records by removing the labels from the center portions after they have been immersed in an aromatic hydrocarbon and crushing the center portions into small particles;B. combining the recovered material with proportions of scrap from phonograph records, briquets of plastic and new polyvinyl chloride to arrive at a new material composition comprising 20% recovered plastic from the center portions, 25% scrap plastic, 25% briquets, and 30% new polyvinyl chloride;C. heating the new material composition in a three temperature zoned furnace with its first zone being heated to a temperature ranging from 215.degree. F-225.degree. F, its second zone being heated to a temperature ranging from 235.degree. F-245.degree. F and its third zone being heated to a temperature ranging from 255.degree. F-265.degree. F so that a uniform composition plastic is obtained; andD. pressing the uniform composition plastic into a flat phonograph record.
