The reamer includes a carrier frame rotatably coupled to a reaming body, a carrier frame housing slidably coupled to the carrier frame, and an hydraulic cylinder for tilting the carrier frame relative to the carrier frame housing. The reamer may also include sondes for monitoring the position and orientation of the reamer during operation or a laser guidance system for automatically steering the reamer along a pilot bore.

摘要： An adaptive voice and data bandwidth management system is implemented in a subscriber loop to permit higher data rates and adaptive allocation of this increased capacity between multiple applications. The management system communicates digital data across multiple-lines when these lines are not in use by other communication equipment. However, when a request for use of a line by another device is detected, a modem clears down a subscriber line and connects the subscriber line to the appropriate communication device. As a result, simultaneous use of a modem and other communication devices is allowed. Once the other communication device ends its communication session, the system adapts to once again communicate digital data over multiple lines in order to increase the speed and efficiency of the data communication.

摘要： A bathtub wrapper structure and end panel therefor in which the end panel consists of two or more layers of paperboard or the like in side-by-side relation. The sections are joined to one another by a hinge means which permits the sections to be folded in such a manner as to adapt the end panel for use at either end of the bathtub wrapper. One section may be shorter than the other and form a recessed upper edge for engaging the upper flange of the tub and supporting the tub in the wrapper structure. Tabs may be provided on the front edge of one or more of the panel sections and on the upper edge of one of the sections for forming cushions along the front and the top of the tub.

摘要： A retainer device (10) is provided for retaining a drill bit (12) within a percussive drill assembly casing (2). The retainer device (10) includes a generally annular body (16) having a central axis and an inner circumferential shoulder portion (18) disposable within the casing (2) such that the body axis (17) is substantially collinear with a casing axis (2a). The shoulder (17) is deflectable between a first position (P1), where the shoulder (18) is contactable with the bit head (14) to retain the bit (12) within the retainer body (16), and a second position (P2). The second position (P2) is spaced radially outwardly from the first position such that the bit head (14) is displaceable through the body (16) in a direction along the casing axis (2a). Also, the retainer device (10) includes a spacer (24) that locates the retainer body (16) at a desired axial position within the casing (2) and a centralizer (26) that centers the body (16) about the casing axis (2a).

摘要： A drill bit suited for impact-assisted directional boring in rock includes a bit body having a frontwardly facing, circular main cutting surface having a number of main cutting teeth disposed thereon. A gage cutter extends radially outwardly from the main cutting surface, which gage cutter mounts at least one frontwardly facing gage cutting tooth thereon suitable for cutting in a circle during straight boring and over an angle defined by less than a full rotation of the bit in order to steer the bit. A heel on an outer side surface of the bit body at a position opposite to and behind the gage tooth provides a reaction surface for the gage cutter. The bit body and gage cutter have a nearly circular side profile along a front portion thereof such that a maximum radial clearance between the side profile and a side wall of a hole being drilled is not greater than about 10 percent of the radius of a circle cut by the gage tooth.

摘要： A multiple line modem and method enable a user to automatically usurp a plurality of telephone lines for data transfer when the telephone is not in use and the ability to switch from multiple line data operation to one (or more) line data and one (or more) line telephone operation automatically when the telephone handset is lifted or an incoming call is detected signaling a request for voice service. The multiple line modem will automatically reestablish the data connection on the line(s) that was used for voice service when the voice service terminates. The multiple line modem allows end to end service that is transparent to the central office. When all lines are operating in data transfer mode, the aggregate data transfer rate is multiplied by the number of lines available for data transport. When one line(s) is operating in voice service mode, the other line(s) maintains data transfer operation at a reduced rate. The line(s) that is used for voice service is adaptively managed by the multiple line modem to provide seamless switching between data transfer mode operation when voice service is not requested and voice service mode operation when voice service is requested.

摘要： A manually-operated press is provided in which old newspapers in a folded condition may be stacked, pressed into a compact bundle, and then bound into a bale, by appropriate metal binding straps, or the like, and then sold to waste paper collectors. The press comprises a compression box having a fixed bottom and a movable top, and it also has an open front through which newspapers may be stacked in the compression box. A lever-like handle is coupled to the moveable top of the compression box through a linkage system. The mechanical advantage of the linkage system is a function of the handle angle, and is non-linear. At the beginning of the downward stroke of the handle, the mechanical advantage of the linkage is a minimum and is just sufficient to cause the air to be squeezed out of the stack of newspapers placed in the compression box as the handle is lowered. As the handle is further lowered, the mechanical advantage of the linkage system increases as the linkage arms of the system turn and approach the vertical position. A stop is provided just past dead center of the linkage system, at which position the top of the compression box locks the bale of newspapers in the compression box under pressure. Slots are provided in the top and bottom of the compression box to facilitate strapping of the bale. After strapping, the handle is lifted and the bale is removed. A small latch pin holds the press open for loading purposes.

In particular, a multi-media modem couples both an analog channel and a data channel to the computer system. The analog channel conveys the calling party's identification information, while the data channel conveys a data signal from the calling party. The computer system verifies the calling party's identification information communicated over the analog channel and, if the verification is successful, immediately establishes, or continues, data communications with the calling party over the data channel.
