The roller cone drill bits include a bit body with a longitudinal axis, one or more bit legs depending from the body, and at least one roller cone attached to each of the bit legs and able to rotate with respect to the bit body, wherein at least one of the roller cones includes a spear point at the cone apex having two or more cutting blades, the cutting blades being oriented at a variety of non-equal, asymmetric angles about a central cone axis with respect to each other, such that tracking during drilling using the drill bit is minimized or eliminated.

Methods of manufacturing roller cones for drill bits include providing both integral teeth and non-integral teeth on the roller cones. A layer of hardfacing may be applied to the integral teeth. Non-integral teeth may be formed on a body of a cone, or they may be separately formed from the body and attached thereto. In some embodiments, the non-integral teeth are formed by building-up the non-integral teeth from hardfacing material. Roller cones and earth-boring tools are formed using such methods.

The bases of the teeth are hardfaced with nickel-based materials to significantly reduce any potential cracking therein. The passageway may extend to adjacent, or within one half inch or three inches of, the cutting face, such that excessive wear opens the passageway to the cutting face. In some cases, the passageway may actually extend through the cutting face with a plug inserted into the passageway at the cutting face to prevent the drilling fluid from exiting the passageway absent wear of the bit.
