    摘要: In order, in a drill tip (2) which is provided particularly for a modular drilling tool, to generate a ridge (18) with supporting chamfers (26, 28) in a simple way, a non-round grinding method is provided, in which, proceeding from a starting rotary position (30) which corresponds to a cutting corner position, the radius is first reduced and is subsequently increased again to form the supporting chamfer (28). There is therefore no need for a separate grinding step to form the supporting chamfers (26, 28). The supporting chamfers (26, 28) preferably extend parallel to the longitudinal mid-axis (22) in the axial direction (24) and intersect coiled chucking grooves (26).

    摘要: A method of designing an earth-boring rotary drill bit includes designing a bit body and cutting elements of the drill bit such that features of the drill bit other than cutting elements engage and rub against the subterranean formation being drilled by the drill bit at depths-of-cut beyond, but close to, an intended median depth-of-cut, and such that the amount of rubbing area between such features and the formation increases at a relatively rapid rate as the depth-of-cut increases beyond the intended median depth-of-cut. Such methods may be employed to mitigate the occurrence of the stick-slip phenomenon during drilling. A method of fabricating a drill bit includes configuring a bit body and cutting elements in accordance with such a design. Earth-boring drill bits include a bit body and cutting elements so configured.

    摘要: An earth boring drill bit comprising: one or more legs; a bit body having a blade and a slot for receiving the leg; and one or more wedge between the leg and the slot fixing the leg within the slot. The slot may have two parallel sidewalls with one of the sidewalls forming an acute angle and the other forming an obtuse angle. The wedge may be secured immediately next to the obtuse angled sidewall. The wedge may have two obtuse angled sides. One or more bolts through each wedge may secure both the wedge and the leg to the bit body. In a preferred embodiment, an obtuse angled sidewall of the wedge is preferably secured immediately next to an acute angled side of the leg.

Methods of repairing an earth-boring tool comprise bringing a replaceable cutting structure proximate at least one portion of a body of an earth-boring tool exhibiting at least one of localized wear and localized impact damage; and attaching the replaceable cutting structure to the earth-boring tool at the at least one portion.

    摘要: A drill bit assembly having an electrically isolated gap joint for electromagnetic telemetry comprises a drill bit, a pin body, an electrically insulating gap joint therebetween, and an electrical conductor extending across the gap joint. The bit head has a cutting end and an opposite connecting end with an engagement section. The pin body has a tubular body with an axial bore therethrough, and comprises a connecting end with an engagement section. The pin body connecting end is connected to the bit head connecting end such that the engagement sections overlap. The electrically insulating gap joint fills an annular gap between the bit head and pin body engagement sections such that the bit head and pin body are mechanically connected together at the connecting ends but are electrically separated. The electrical conductor has one end electrically contacting one of the bit head and pin body, and the other end communicable with electronics equipment.
