    摘要: A method of measuring weld thermal response as a function of time during the production of a resistance weld includes monitoring a first parameter responsive to a change in an electrode mechanical load on workpieces welded together with respect to the electrode mechanical load applied prior to application of the heat, monitoring a second parameter responsive to a change in position of linkage applying the electrode load with respect to linkage position prior to application of the heat, and processing a composite of the first parameter and the second parameter to produce a derived measurement representative of the thermal response of the weld. Electrode force and electrode current are also monitored via sensors and measurements calibrated to provide more accurate information during the welding process.

    摘要: A programmable power control and line voltage monitoring/compensation system for resistance spot welding machines of varying configurations provides maximum time for computer calculation of SCR triggering times and compensates in real time for these input power line fluctuations that affect the welding operation. The power control employs a single programmable delay element, the delay time of which is set while the delay is timing out to generate SCR trigger pulses. The commutation effect in three phase welding machine configurations is taken into account by the power control in determining trigger times. The line monitor synthesizes replica signals of both the primary voltage and current transmitted by the SCRs and processes these replica signals to provide various circuit parameters which can be used as feedback to compensate for only those line variations which affect the welding process.

    摘要: A Finite Element Analysis system having intelligent, interactive user interface features allows engineers without specialized knowledge in mathematical modeling to easily and interactively solve diverse problems. The system includes a digitizer tablet having a segmented work surface for entering pictorial data and for alternately selecting among processing modes from a menu. Alternate displays on a status screen are automatically correlated with the user positioning of a stylus on the digitizer tablet surface to provide the user with the information he needs for a particular contemplated action. A graphics screen displays a dumb cursor which tracks the position of the stylus in the graphics workspace of the digitizer tablet. An intelligent cursor automatically drawn on the graphics screen by a computer processor identifies a site of interest nearest the current location of the dumb cursor. The intelligent cursor anticipates the user's action in a selected mode and constrains these actions to valid operations within that mode.

    摘要: A signal processor converts quadrature phase signals, from an encoder, representative of a measured parameter, into data which is directly readable by a computer and representative of the magnitude and direction of the current value of the parameter. The signal processor decodes binary signals representative of successive samples of the quadrature phase signals into UP signals, DOWN signals, ERROR signals and NO CHANGE signals. The UP and DOWN signals are converted into corresponding pulse streams which drive an up-down counter. Range control circuitry facilitates extension of the measuring range of the processor beyond that of the counter. Error control circuitry provides an ERROR INTERRUPT signal to the computer when an illegal condition occurs and also preserves the last valid data occurring before the illegal condition. Change control circuitry advises the computer when a change in the parameter being measured is initiated and completed so that the computer can selectively sample processor output data only in response to changes in the measured parameter.

The quadrature signals are converted to pulses representing positive and negative unit changes of displacement, and fed to an up-down counter which has signed two's complement values at its output. The most recent displacement data is read out while the counter continuously tracks the encoder.

    摘要: The adaptive controller for a resistance spot welder is implemented with a microcomputer and peripherals to handle the monitoring of several process variable inputs and control the welding machine in real time. Before welding power is applied, electrode load, workpiece thickness and dynamic resistance are measured and must fall within predefined limits in order to continue. The workpiece, if necessary, is conditioned to correct fit-up and surface contamination problems by applying power pulses to lower its resistance. The welding power in each half cycle is dynamically adjusted as a function of workpiece thermal expansion and its first derivative to control formation of the weld nugget, and to control the cooling rate and temper the workpiece. During welding the power limits are adjusted in real time to compensate for electrode flattening and shunt effects. The quality of each weld is diagnosed and machine diagnostics are performed.
