Using the position and orientation information, the magnetic coil system generates a first magnetic field that exerts a force on the working capsule at a location of the working capsule in the patient. A method is disclosed for determining the position and orientation of an endoscopy capsule guided through an examination object by using a navigating magnetic field generated by way of a navigation device. In the method, an X-ray machine is used to record radiation images in which the endoscopy capsule is shown. Further, the position and orientation of the endoscopy capsule are determined with the aid of the position-dependent and orientation-dependent image of the endoscopy capsule in the radiation images.
