Abstract: Fluid management systems are disclosed that include software-controlled, electro-mechanical devices used in combination with single-use or multi-use tubing sets. Functions of the fluid management systems can include fluid pressurization, fluid warming, fluid deficit monitoring (including flow-based and weight-based), suction, fluid collection, and fluid evacuation (including indirect-to-drain and direct-to-drain options). The systems can be configured based on the surgical environment (e.g., operating room or physician office) as well as other user needs and/or preferences.

Abstract: A communication system involves a medical device that collect data during a surgical or medical procedure and an edge communication device coupled to the medical device. The edge communication device is configured to receive, from a remote management server, a profile that defines control policies for the edge communication device. The control policies include a data collection policy configured to specify a type of the data that the edge communication device is allowed to collect from the medical device and a data communication policy to specify a condition for which the edge communication device is allowed to transmit the collected data to an external server. The edge communication device stores the profile in memory and implements to the control policies such that only the specified type of data is collected and such that the collected data is transmitted to the external server only in response to presence of the condition.

Abstract: A pressure regulator includes a first chamber having an inlet opening for fluidly connecting to a first pressure source; a second chamber having an outlet opening for supplying a regulated pressure to a regulated site; a third chamber having a pressure opening for connecting to a second pressure source; and a flexible membrane fluidly isolating the third chamber from both of the first and second chambers, wherein the flexible membrane is movable by the pressure source between a first position in which the flexible membrane fluidly isolates the first chamber from the second chamber and a second position in which the first and second chambers are fluidly connected.

Abstract: Light-based non-invasive blood pressure measurement systems and methods that include a sensor having a light emitter and a light detector are disclosed. The light emitter emitting coherent or non-coherent light that is transmitted into and reflected from the tissues of the patient, including reflecting from moving blood. The light reflected from the moving blood being having a Doppler shift and detected by the light detector to generate a noninvasive blood pressure signal. The non-invasive blood pressure signal is processed to determine the instantaneous velocity of the blood. Additionally, pulse wave velocity data is obtained nearly, or substantially, simultaneously with the acquisition of the non-invasive blood pressure signal. Using the pulse wave velocity, the instantaneous velocity of the blood and a density of the blood, an instantaneous blood pressure can be determined.

Abstract: A method of operating a waste collection unit including a light assembly separate from a display panel. A vacuum level of the vacuum drawn on a waste canister is measured with a vacuum sensor. The light assembly positioned adjacent a manifold receiver is operated to selectively emit light of a color based on the measured vacuum level. A commanded vacuum level may be received on the display panel, and a colored image indicative of a commanded vacuum level may be displayed on the display panel. The waste collection unit may include plural manifold receivers each configured to receive a manifold. The light assembly that is adjacent the manifold receiver corresponding to the waste canister into which the vacuum is being drawn may be operated to selectively emit light to emit light at different colors or different patterns based on the operating state of the waste collection unit.
