    摘要: A display device includes a display module, a light source module and a guiding optical film. The display module includes a first substrate, a second substrate and a display medium. The light source module generates directional light. The display module has a vertical electric field. The display medium is optically isotropic, and the display medium is optically anisotropic when driven by the vertical electric field. The directional light is not perpendicular to the first substrate when the directional light enters the display nodule. The directional light is not perpendicular to the second substrate when the directional light exits the display module. The guiding optical film is disposed on the second substrate and has a light incident surface and a light emitting surface. After the directional light exits the guiding optical film, emitting light is formed, and the emitting light and the light emitting surface has an included angle there between.

The first protrusion is disposed on the first substrate. The first electrode is disposed on the first protrusion. The second substrate is disposed opposite to the first substrate.     摘要: A liquid crystal display includes a first alignment film having a first alignment direction, a second alignment film having a second alignment direction, and a liquid crystal layer having liquid crystal molecules between the first and second alignment films. The liquid crystal layer is doped with a chiral material that tends to induce a first twist in directors of the liquid crystal molecules when an electric field is applied to the liquid crystal layer. The first and second alignment films have orientations that tends to induce a second twist in the directors when an electric field is applied to the liquid crystal layer, in which the direction of the first twist is different from the direction of the second twist.

    摘要: Method, system and device for a transflective liquid crystal display with both transmissive and reflective functions is realized by using a transflective component into a transmissive LCD. The transflective component can be a transparent substrate with patterned reflectors on one surface and repetitive patterned lenses or prisms formed on the opposite surface facing the backlight unit. The transparent areas substantially allow the optical beams to pass through. The light from the backlight is refracted or focused by the optical structures onto the transparent areas or apertures of other surface, thus a substantial amount of backlight transmits to the LC for light modulation for different gray levels. For the incident ambient light incident on the transflective component, the majority is reflected back to the viewer by the reflectors on the transflective component, and the remainder transmits the transflective component to the backlight unit and be recycled to be used again.

    摘要: Apparatus, methods, systems and devices for high aperture ratio, high transmittance, and wide viewing angle liquid crystal display having first and second substrates each with an alignment layer and polarizer on the interior and exterior surface thereof and a liquid crystal material therebetween forming plural pixels each having a common electrode group and a pixel electrode group each having at least one common and pixel electrode. A fringe field drives the molecules in the regions above and below the electrodes and a horizontal field drives the molecules between the electrode groups to achieve high transmittance. In an embodiment an insulating layer separates the substrate and alignment layer and the pixel electrodes are on the substrate and the common electrodes are on the insulating layer. In another embodiment a compensation film is layered between one of the substrates and corresponding polarizer.

    摘要: A novel nematic liquid crystal (LC) mode is based on the Fringing-Field-Switching of Vertically-Aligned liquid crystals. The VA-FFS mode is capable of generating very fast optical modulation without the use of very thin cell gap. IA major feature of this LC mode is that it has unusual fast relaxation time compared with the conventional nematic LC modes that require a thin cell gap. This fast relaxation occurs even at very low applied voltages and the operation is very stable. The fast-response mechanism of this LC mode involves the confinement of liquid crystal molecular switching within self-imposed thin LC layers. The present invention provides a novel approach to overcome the fundamental problem of the long relaxation time of the conventional nematic liquid crystal modes.

A dielectric layer is between the first and second electrodes in one of the reflective region and the transmissive region, the dielectric layer configured such that when a pixel voltage is applied to the first and second electrodes, the percentage of the pixel voltage applied across the first portion of the liquid crystal layer is different from the percentage of the pixel voltage applied across the second portion of the liquid crystal layer. The display includes a backlight module to generate the backlight.

    摘要: A wide viewing angle transflective liquid crystal display includes a retardation film and pixels positioned between first and second substrates, each pixel including a transmissive region and a reflective region. The retardation film has a phase retardation that compensates the phase retardation of a liquid crystal layer in the transmissive region for normal incident light to achieve a dark state when no data voltage is applied to the pixel. The retardation film and a liquid crystal layer in the reflective region has a phase retardation in a range between 0.22λ and 0.28λ with respect to normal incident light to achieve a dark state when no data voltage is applied to the pixel, λ being the wavelength of the incident light.

    摘要: The apparatus, methods, system and devices of the present invention provides transflective LCD system structure wherein each pixel is composed of at least three reflective sub-pixels and at least one transmissive sub-pixel. The reflective sub-pixels have a color filter layer for displaying color reflective images and the transmissive sub-pixel it is driven by color sequential imaging method for displaying a color transmissive image. The configuration of the sub-pixels and the location of the sub-pixel electronics increases the aperture ratio of both transmissive sub-pixel and reflective sub-pixel to improve the image brightness and lower the overall power consumption of the device.
