A monitor system which can flexibly deal with changes in the system structure and perform monitoring of high quality includes a plurality of cameras and connected via a communication medium. Each of the plurality of cameras includes: an image capturing device which captures an image of an image capturing area included in a monitoring area and changes the image capturing area; a communication unit which (i) transmits, to another camera via the communication medium, the image capturing characteristics information for identifying the image capturing area and (ii) receives image capturing characteristics information from another camera; and an image capturing characteristics change unit which changes the image capturing area by controlling the image capturing device of the camera based on the image capturing characteristics information of the camera and the image capturing characteristics information of another camera received in the communication unit so that the image capturing area of the camera and the image capturing area of another camera have a predetermined relation.

Scores that are attribute information of the media content, and for representing a degree of importance of each of the plurality of segments based on a context of the media content, is input and/or appended, as an attribute, to a number of the hierarchical layers of the description data. One of the plurality of segments can then be selected based upon the scores.

The operation log cooperation utilizing device 10 (i) detects a user's operation on a device (101), (ii) accumulates and manages the detected operation as an operation log (102), and (iii) transmits a current operation log as a current operation log to other devices (103). On the other hand, the operation log cooperation utilizing device 10 (i) receives current operation logs from other devices (104), (ii) extracts, as associated operation logs, operation logs which are in predetermined relations to the received current operation logs (105), and (ii) transmits the extracted operation logs to other devices (106). Moreover, the operation log cooperation utilizing device 10 (i) receives associated operation logs from other devices (107), (ii) interprets the received associated operation logs (108), (iii) presents the user with the associated operation logs based on the interpretation result (109), (iv) determines the cooperating operation details for other devices based on the presented associated operation logs (110), and (v) transmits the determined cooperating operation details to the corresponding devices (111).
