    摘要: A thin lightweight glass fascia for appliances. The fascia may be a seamless shaped glass fascia for an appliance, such as a glass fascia that wraps around at least two opposing edges of an appliance. The glass fascia may seamlessly incorporate a display or control panel under the fascia. A mounting arrangement that facilitates quick fascia removal and replacement may be provided. The fascia may be a chemically-strengthened glass sheet having a thickness of less than 2.0 mm, and a near-surface region under a compressive stress, wherein the compressive stress (CS) at a surface of the first glass sheet is greater than 300 MPa and extends to a depth of layer of at least 20 micrometers.

    摘要: An optical fiber having both low macrobend loss and low microbend loss. The fiber has a MAC number less than 7.0 and a zero dispersion wavelength less than 1450 nm. The optical fiber advantageously comprises a primary coating and a secondary coating. The primary coating has a Young's modulus of less than 1.0 MPa and a glass transition temperature of less than −25° C. The secondary coating surrounds the primary coating, and the secondary coating has a Young's modulus of greater than 1200 MPa. The macrobend loss as measured by a 20 mm diameter bend test at 1550 nm is not more than 5.0 dB/m. Optical fiber ribbon and optical fiber cable that include the optical fiber is also disclosed.

    摘要: Disclosed is a negative total dispersion waveguide fiber having low attenuation and sufficiently good resistance to bend loss that attenuation is not impacted by cabling or otherwise buffering the waveguide. The total dispersion slope of the waveguide fiber is positive so that the zero dispersion wavelength is greater than 1600 nm. The waveguide fiber may advantageously be used in a link having a distributed feedback laser as a signal source. The negative dispersion of the waveguide in accordance with the invention compresses the launched signal pulse when the laser is positively chirped. The laser is operated at optimum bias, which results in positive chirp, but no dispersion penalty is incurred in the link. The waveguide fiber in accordance with the invention may also be advantageously used as a dispersion compensating fiber in a high performance multiplexed telecommunications link.
