    Abstract: The invention relates to a microfluidic poration device having narrow channels slightly smaller than the width of a target cell, wherein the channels are lined with a plurality of nanospikes in a row extending down the middle of the channel, i.e. in a row parallel to the sides of the channel. In one embodiment, one channel may have 2 nanospikes (or 2 nanolancets). Thus, in particular embodiments, the invention provides microfluidic poration devices capable of simultaneously squeezing cells while piercing holes in their membranes for allowing foreign molecules into cells. The holes in porated cells spontaneously close after exiting the channels, thus entrapping the foreign molecules inside of the target cells. This porated cell population has approximately a 95% viability with greater than 50% containing at least one foreign molecule.

    Abstract: A pharmaceutical combination having one or more MDM2 inhibitor and one or more inhibitor of dephosphorylation of elF2α. MDM2 inhibitors are non-peptide small molecule inhibitors or stapled peptide inhibitors of the interaction between MDM2 and p53. Inhibitors of phosphorylation of elF2α are non-peptide small molecule inhibitors. Components of the pharmaceutical combination are administered to a subject in need thereof in a combined therapeutic amount to provide therapeutic effect and optionally synergistic therapeutic effect. A method for treatment of proliferative disease or disorders, including various cancers, which comprises administering to a subject in need thereof of one or more MDM2 inhibitor and one or more inhibitor of dephosphorylation of elF2α, wherein the inhibitors are administered in a combined therapeutic amount to provide therapeutic effect and optionally synergistic therapeutic effect.

    Abstract: A method for spectroscopic gas sensing processes a measured spectrum generated by an optical spectrometer. The method includes transforming, with a locality-sensitive hash function, the measured spectrum into an integer hash value h. The method also includes adding, to a candidate set of candidate spectra, template spectra stored in an hth bin of a look-up table. The method also includes calculating, based on each candidate spectrum in the candidate set, a measure that quantifies discrepancy between the measured spectrum and said each candidate spectrum. The method also includes identifying, based on the measure, a best-match spectrum of the candidate spectra, and retrieving, from the hth bin of the look-up table, a parameter set corresponding to the best-match spectrum. The method also includes deriving, based on the parameter set, one or more properties of the gas sample.

    Abstract: Isotropic (amorphous) elastomers and methods of preparation are described. The isotropic elastomer may include a first monomer having an alkene functionality and a second monomer having a thiol functionality. The first monomer may be a liquid crystal monomer and the second monomer may be an isotropic monomer. Unlike polydomain LCEs, the isotropic elastomers may rapidly recover after deformation and have increased toughness relative to conventional elastomers prepared from wholly isotropic precursors.
