A toner image carried by a heat softenable layer of a receiving sheet is fixed by feeding it into a pressure nip between a pressure member and a ferrotyping belt. To preheat the heat softenable layer, it is urged against the belt by a pressure or squeegee roller which contacts the back of the receiving sheet and urges it into contact with the belt. The adhesive characteristics of the heat softenable layer when heated by the belt cause the receiving sheet to follow the belt from the squeegee roller into the pressure nip.

Apparatus for automatically inserting 35 mm photographic slides into a slide scanning gate in the scanning station of a film scanner, scanning the slide, and ejecting the slides on completion of scanning. A vertical mount in the film scanner housing receives a rotatable slide tray having customer orders in selected tray slots to present each selected slide into alignment laterally in a horizontal plane with the film scanning gate. A load arm is actuated to load the slide from the tray slot into the scanning gate. The scanning gate accepts slides in mounts of varying size and thickness and centers the slide film image frame in alignment with a film scanning plane in the scanning station. The scanning gate is translated in the scanning station out of the load position for low and high resolution scans and returned to the load position. A return arm is actuated to eject the slide from the scanning gate and back into the same slot in the tray, and the tray is rotated to present the next selected slide into alignment with the load and return arms and the slide scanning gate. The system scans slides of different customer orders in accordance with instructions entered into an electronic control system.

A support assembly, in an electrostatographic reproduction apparatus having multiple development stations respectively containing different color marking particles for selective development of a plurality of latent image-wise charge patterns on a moving dielectric member so that such apparatus is capable of making multi-color reproductions. The support assembly includes a plurality of members adapted to receive the plurality of development stations respectively. The plurality of members are simultaneously movable to a first position where development stations received by the members are remote from the dielectric member to facilitate removal of such development stations from the apparatus, and to a second position where such development stations are in juxtaposition with the dielectric member. Additionally, the plurality of members, once in said second position where development stations received by the members are located to bring marking particles into development contact with the dielectric member, are independently movable to a third position where such development stations are located to prevent marking particles from coming into contact with the dielectric member.

A development station of electrographic apparatus uses particles of toner to develop latent images on a photoconductor. As the toner particles are depleted a new supply of toner from a container is provided to the development station. Apparatus for adding toner to the development station includes a mounting member having an opening through which toner can pass to the station. A cover hinged to the mounting member moves between closed and open positions, and the cover has an opening that is aligned with the opening in the mounting member when the cover is closed. A shut-off slide in the cover has an opening that can be aligned with the opening in the cover. A container of fresh toner is coupled to the slide and moves with the slide between positions wherein the toner is blocked from flowing through the cover and a position wherein toner from the container can move through the slide, the cover and the mounting member into the development station.

To prevent hot offset of the leading portion of the heat softenable layer, a recess in the pressure roller receives the leading edge of the receiving sheet, thus reducing the pressure in the nip for the leading portion of the receiving sheet.

An efficient, clean and inexpensive apparatus for adding fresh toner to a development station in an electrostatographic copier or printer includes a pivotable member for holding and transporting a container of such toner, without retouching, regrasping or directly rehandling such container, between a first position in which the container, substantially in an upright orientation, is non-slidably attachable to the pivotable member, and a second position in which the container is fully inverted over the development station automatically locating such container in place for toner therein to flow gravitationally into the development station. The apparatus further includes: (a) a slide that is movable between a toner shut-off position and a toner-flow position, for shutting off or allowing the flow of toner out of the container; (b) devices associated with the development station for mounting and for latching the apparatus; and (c) a device associated with the slide for preventing the pivotable member from pivoting when the slide, and hence the apparatus, is in the toner-flow position.
