Abstract: In general, one aspect disclosed features a media-capture device, comprising: one or more sensors; a hardware processor; and a non-transitory machine-readable storage medium encoded with instructions executable by the hardware processor to perform a method comprising: initiating acquisition of one or more sensor data samples representing analog phenomena captured by the one or more sensors; receiving the one or more sensor data samples; encoding the one or more sensor data samples; generating a to-be-signed data structure comprising at least one of: the one or more encoded sensor data samples, or one or more cryptographic hashes of the one or more encoded sensor data samples; generating a cryptographic hash of the to-be-signed data structure; determining whether a time-stamping server is reachable over a network connection by the media capture device; and configuring a second data structure based on the determination of whether the time-stamping server is reachable.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides systems and methods for authenticating photographic data. In one embodiment, a method comprises providing an image authentication application for use on a client device, the application configured to control image capture and transmission; receiving an image data file from the application at the authentication server comprising a photographic image captured by the application and metadata associated therewith; applying a watermark to the photographic image to create a watermarked image; applying date and time information to the tagged image; applying location information to the tagged image; creating a web address associated with the image data file; uploading the photographic image, the tagged image, or both to the web address; and transmitting an authenticated image file to the client device, the authenticated image file comprising one or more of: the watermarked image, the photographic image, the date and time information, geographic information, and the web address.

Abstract: Systems, computer-implemented methods, and non-transitory machine-readable storage media are provided for detecting recapture attacks of images. One method comprises extracting one or more features from an image captured by a device; applying the one or more features as input to a trained machine learning model, wherein the trained machine learning model outputs a first score based on the extracted features; obtaining metadata of the image; performing a statistical analysis of the metadata of the image; generating a second score based on the statistical analysis of the metadata of the image; and generating a probability that the image is a recapture of an original image based on the first score and the second score.

Abstract: A system and method include obtaining and authenticating image files from users, such as insured users, at the request of an entity, such as an insurance provider. The requesting entity may supply an electronic address of the user and a unique identifier. The system may transmit a link to the electronic address. When selected, the link causes an image authentication application to be installed on a user device. The application takes the images securely and separately from a native camera application. Each image authentication application may be customized for each requesting entity. An authentication server may identify the requesting entity that made the request and identify a corresponding image authentication application to be provided to the electronic address. The images from the image authentication application may be authenticated via reverse image search, time, geolocation, and/or other information. The authenticated images and/or related data may be provided to the requesting entity.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for authenticating image files when network connections should not or cannot be used to transfer image files. A user device application may capture an image at a user device, generate an image file, and generate a hash file based on the image file. Instead of sending the image file to an authentication server for authentication, the application may send the hash file. If desired, the application may transfer the image file when a desirable network connection is available. Any alteration to the image file in the meantime will result in a different hash file for the altered image file, thus allowing detection of altered image files. This approach offers decreases the amount of data that is required to be transmitted in low or undesirable signal conditions, while maintaining an ability to detect alterations to image files that may have been made in the meantime.
