    摘要: A length or strand of resilient material is formed into a continuous ring having multiple tissue-engaging portions for engaging and spreading eyeball tissue segments apart. The strand is formed with elongated straight sides joined by corner portions which are enlarged in directions transverse to the length dimension of each adjacent side. The corner portions constitute the tissue-engaging portions and have top and bottom sections and a connecting section that forms a gap for receiving the tissue. Each side of the ring extends from a bottom section of one corner to a top section of an adjacent corner. When the ring is deployed, the tissue is captured in the gaps at the corners of the ring and also is engaged along each side as that side transitions from a position situated below the tissue to a position situated above the issue.

    摘要: Elongated generally horizontal blades are spaced apart vertically and have proximate handle end portions and distal grasping end portions. By manipulation of the handle end portions, the grasping end portions can be brought together into clamping engagement. The lower grasping end portion is return bent and includes a marginal portion offset laterally from the remainder of the lower blade. The upper grasping end portion is movable downward alongside the lower blade so as to engage against such laterally offset marginal portion of the lower grasping end portion. The composite forceps-type instrument is useful for implanting intraocular lenses during cataract surgery, particularly for positioning the superior haptic of an intraocular lens in a lens capsule.

    摘要: Disclosed are an intraocular lens (IOL) push rod, an IOL cartridge, multiple embodiments of an IOL cartridge housing, and a method for folding an IOL for insertion into an eye during ocular surgery. The distal end of the push rod is contoured to apply force to a substantial portion of the perimeter of an IOL to advance the IOL through a bore of the cartridge. Two hinges couple flanges on the IOL cartridge to a central portion that supports an IOL when protected by a cover for an extended storage time. The IOL cartridge has a locking element that engages a cartridge housing or IOL inserter. Each cartridge housing accepts the IOL cartridge with the IOL in an unfolded state. The cartridge bore is unobstructed and is tapered to fold one side of the IOL over the other as the IOL is advanced through the bore and into an eye.
