A method and apparatus for providing contents services. The method of using a contents service includes the operations of receiving a list of available contents services from a first server and displaying the list, transmitting, to the first server, a list of contents services selected from the displayed available contents service list, and updating service subscription data with reference to the selected contents service list. Accordingly, the subscription of contents services, such as a channel service that provides each user with different information according to subscription information, can be managed at any time and at any place without being dependent on a specific PC or a specific PC program. Even while moving without being connected with a PC, a mobile device can automatically update its contents.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus to process a user-defined audio user interface (UI), and an audio device using the same. The method includes designating a specific portion of an audio signal being reproduced, using a specific input member, capturing audio data of the designated specific portion, mapping the captured audio data of the designated specific portion to information on the specific input member, and constructing an audio UI database using the audio data of the designated specific portion mapped to the information on the specific input member. Accordingly, by constructing an audio UI database by selecting sounds preferred by a user, demands of various users, which cannot be provided by existing MP3 players, can be satisfied.

A noise elimination apparatus and method of eliminating noise content from a signal including the noise content and audio content input to a recording device, such as a camcorder. The method includes determining whether a noise frame exists by variably setting one or more thresholds independently in zones in which an estimated noise spectrum is updated according to an input audio spectrum of the audio signal, updating the estimated noise spectrum according to a noise spectrum of a previous frame and a noise spectrum of a current frame if the current frame is determined to be a noise frame, and subtracting the estimated noise spectrum from the input audio spectrum of the current frame.

An apparatus and method of automatically compensating audio volume in response to a channel change. The method includes generating a gain value to adjust a level of an input audio signal by comparing an average level of the input audio signal with a predetermined input/output level curve, adjusting an audio volume of the input audio signal by applying the generated gain value to the level of the input audio signal, and adjusting a dynamic range of the audio signal having the adjusted audio volume.

A method and apparatus to generate harmonics. The method of generating the harmonics includes selecting a first coefficient and a second coefficient according to a result of comparing a level of an input frequency signal and a level of a feedback signal, adding a result of multiplying the level of the input frequency signal by the first coefficient and a result of multiplying the level of the feedback signal by the second coefficient to calculate the level of an output frequency signal, delaying the output frequency signal having the calculated level by a predetermined sample, and transmitting a resulting level of the delayed output frequency signal as the level of the feedback signal.

A user interface method and apparatus includes determining whether a command for user interface (UI) event occurrence is input, reading a pre-stored auditory user interface (AUI) element if the command for UI event occurrence is input is determined, generating an AUI based on the AUI element, and outputting the generated AUI to an outside. According to the method, an AUI environment using sound information is given to a user. Accordingly, the user can be guided to efficiently achieve a given task and reduce errors.

An audio reproduction method and apparatus are provided. The method includes sound-localizing audio thumbnails that respectively represent a predetermined number of audio files into a predetermined number of directions, simultaneously outputting the sound-localized audio thumbnails, and outputting at least one of the audio files based on a selection of a user who has heard the simultaneously-output audio thumbnails. The user can search several audio files at a time and more quickly select and listen to desired audio files.

A method and an apparatus to recover a high frequency component of an MP3 encoded audio signal in an audio decoder. The method includes: generating a filter bank value of a low frequency band from a modified discrete cosine transform (MDCT) coefficient, which is extracted from an input bitstream according to a window type, extracting transient information of a frame according to the window type and selecting a weight coefficient according to the extracted transient information, recovering a filter bank value of a lost high frequency band from the generated filter bank value of the low frequency band, and adjusting the recovered filter bank value of recovered high frequency components according to the weight coefficient.

A dialog enhancing method and apparatus to boost formants of dialog zones without changing sound zones includes calculating line spectrum pair (LSP) coefficients based on linear prediction coding (LPC) from an input signal, determining whether voice zones exist in the input signal on the basis of the calculated LSP coefficients, and extracting formants from the LSP coefficients according to whether the voice zones exist, and boosting the formants.
