Abstract: A sensor for a separable connector comprises a plug body comprising an insulating resin, the plug body configured to be inserted into the separable connector to encase a high voltage conductor disposed in the separable connector. The sensor also includes one or more high voltage capacitors encased by the insulating resin and configured to be electrically coupled to the separable connector at a first end portion when the plug body is inserted and one or more low voltage capacitors electrically coupled in series to the one or more high voltage capacitors to form a capacitive voltage divider. The sensor also includes a low voltage connection configured to provide a low voltage signal corresponding to a high voltage signal present in the separable connector, the low voltage connection comprising a coaxial contact having a first metal contact and a second metal contact.

Abstract: A sensor for a separable connector includes a plug body, one or more high voltage capacitors, one or more low voltage capacitors, and a low voltage connection. The plug body includes an insulating resin. The plug body can be inserted into the separable connector to encase a high voltage conductor disposed in the separable connector. The one or more high voltage capacitors are encased by the insulating resin and can be electrically coupled to the separable connector at a first end portion when the plug body is inserted. The one or more low to voltage capacitors are electrically coupled in series to the one or more high voltage capacitors to form a capacitive voltage divider. The low voltage connection provides a low voltage signal corresponding to a high voltage signal present in the separable connector. Signal conditioning electronics or a memory may also be included.

Abstract: A sensored insulation plug for a medium-voltage or high-voltage separable connector in a power distribution network of a national grid, and operable to insulate a connection element of the separable connector on elevated voltage and to sense the elevated voltage. The sensored insulation plug has an outer shape generally symmetrical about a plug axis defining axial directions and radial directions, and comprises a plug body formed by an insulating material, and a primary capacitor, operable as a high-voltage capacitor in a voltage divider for sensing the elevated voltage. The primary capacitor has a high-voltage electrode for direct electrical connection to the elevated voltage, a sensing electrode of a tubular shape, embedded in the plug body, arranged around the high-voltage electrode and extending, in axial directions, between a first axial edge position (B) and a second axial edge position (A), and a dielectric formed by a portion of the insulating material arranged between at least a portion of the sensing electrode and at least a portion of the high-voltage electrode. A shield electrode of generally tubular shape, embedded in the plug body, is arranged around the sensing electrode and extending in axial directions at least between the first axial edge (B) position and the second axial edge position (A), and comprises a protruding portion extending in axial direction beyond the first axial edge position (B), such as to enhance electrical shielding, by the shield electrode, of the sensing electrode against external electrical fields.

Abstract: A sensor for a separable connector includes an elongate plug body extending along an axis and includes an insulating resin. The plug body includes a high voltage connection at least partially encased by the insulating resin and includes a low voltage connection spaced along the axis from the high voltage connection. The plug body also includes a substrate at least partially encased in the insulating resin and extending around the axis between a high voltage portion and a low voltage portion of the substrate. A circuit is disposed on the substrate and extends from the high voltage portion to the low voltage portion of the substrate. The circuit includes a plurality of first impedance elements electrically coupled between the high and low voltage connections. One or more second impedance elements are electrically coupled to the circuit via the low voltage connection to form a voltage divider.

The sensored insulation plug comprises a) a plug body formed by a solidified insulating material, b) an externally accessible detection contact, c) a primary capacitor, operable as a high-voltage capacitor in a sensing voltage divider for sensing the elevated voltage, the primary capacitor having i) a high-voltage electrode; ii) a sensing electrode embedded in the plug body; iii) a dielectric formed by a first portion of the insulating material, and d) a testpoint capacitor, operable as a high-voltage capacitor in a detection voltage divider for detecting the elevated voltage and comprising i) the high-voltage electrode, ii) a testpoint electrode, embedded in the plug body and electrically connected to the detection contact, and iii) a dielectric formed by a second portion of the insulating material.

Abstract: A voltage sensor for sensing an AC voltage of a HV/MV power conductor comprises a capacitive voltage divider for sensing the AC voltage having one or more high-voltage capacitors electrically connected in series with each other and a low-voltage portion comprising one or more low-voltage capacitors electrically connected with each other between the high-voltage portion and electrical ground. The voltage divider also comprises a signal contact, electrically arranged between the high-voltage portion and the low-voltage portion, for providing a signal voltage indicative of the AC voltage. The low-voltage portion further comprises a plurality of electrically actuated adjustable impedance elements configured to adjust the common overall impedance of the low-voltage portion towards a desired impedance. Each electrically actuated adjustable impedance element comprises one or more associated adjustment capacitors and at least one electrically actuatable element, wherein each electrically actuatable element is associated with and electrically connected to one or more of the adjustment capacitors and wherein each electrically actuatable element is configured to achieve one of a connected state and a disconnected state. In the connected state, an associated adjustment capacitor is electrically connected in parallel to at least one of the one or more low-voltage capacitors. In the disconnected state, the associated adjustment capacitor is electrically disconnected from the low-voltage capacitor(s).
