摘要: 1,097,844. Laminated trim panels. ALLEN INDUSTRIES Inc. Aug. 8, 1966 [Aug. 13. 1965], No. 35406/66. Heading B5N. A method of making a composite decorative trim panel comprises the steps of applying a coating of a heat reactable adhesive between the opposed surfaces of a substantially impermeable face sheet 10 (Fig. 1) and a resilient compressible pad 22, the pad incorporating water at least on one surface thereof in an amount sufficient to generate steam which permeates the assembly on subsequent heating thereof when disposed between two die halves 40, 42 (Fig. 5). The face sheet may be of any suitable thermoplastic material 12, e.g. vinyl films, or fibrous material rendered impermeable by the application of a barrier layer, e.g. acrylic or styrene lattices, and is preferably supported by a fibrous sheet 14 which may be adhered to its inner surface as shown, or to its outer surface, Fig. 2 (not shown). The adhesive between the sheet 10 and pad 22 may be any thermosetting adhesive compatible with the material used for the face sheet and pad, e.g. polyurethane adhesives, vinyl adhesives, rubber based adhesives or styrene adhesives. The adhesive is preferably sprayed on the pad with an overlying aqueous layer. The face sheet is superimposed on the pad and the assembly positioned between the upper and lower die halves 40, 42 with the face sheet 50 adjacent the die 42 having a preselected contour 46 in its face. Compression is effected along the upstanding die portions 46. The dies are heated causing conversion of the water to steam which permeates through the assembly and exerts a pressure against the internal surface of the face sheet in the uncompressed areas thereof. Heating is continued for a time sufficient to effect at least partial curing of the adhesive and penetration thereof through the compressed portions of the pad. The pad is preferably provided with a fibrous reinforcement layer 26. In a preferred embodiment, Fig. 7, the lower die consists of a steel frame 66 within which a porous contoured matrix 68 is mounted. Vacuum is applied to a cavity 70 below the matrix and through the matrix to the face sheet 78. Preferably the face sheet is preheated to a temperature in excess of that of the lower die, prior to its placement thereon, to achieve improved definition of the pattern imposed during pressing.
