Abstract: At a configuration discovery service, a unique service-side identifier is generated for a configuration item based on analysis of a data set obtained from a first data source. A determination is made that a second data set, which does not contain the service-side identifier and is obtained from a different data source, also includes information pertaining to the same configuration item. A coalesced configuration record for the configuration item is prepared. The coalesced configuration record is stored at a repository and used to respond to a programmatic query.

Abstract: A service provider network includes a database that has one or more “base” machine images and, for one or more of the base machine images, one or more predetermined “optimized” machine images. Each base and optimized machine image are stored in the database and selected based on certain user inputs to create a customer-desired virtual machine instance on a host computer. An optimized machine image is a version of a particular base machine image to which one or more optimizations have been applied. The database may contain complete optimized machine images or data bits that, when applied to a base machine image, result in the optimized machine image.

Abstract: Techniques for providing a managed time service are described. A control plane of the managed time service can receive data indicating one or more network time protocol (NTP) hosts are active. The control plane can update a zonal domain name system (DNS) to include the one or more NTP hosts. The at least one compute resource accesses the one or more NTP hosts using the zonal DNS, and the one or more NTP hosts provide time data to the at least one compute resource. The control plane can receive performance data from the one or more NTP hosts and automatically scale the one or more NTP hosts based on the performance data.
