    Abstract: This specification discloses systems for recording holograms and for reconstructing images from such holograms. The object of which the hologram is to be made is illuminated with a plurality of coherent point sources of light. Light from the object forms an interference pattern with light from a reference point source of coherent light. This interference pattern is recorded to provide the hologram. In the reconstruction, a lens is provided to produce images of the reconstructions of the coherent light sources and of the reconstruction of the object. A mask is provided in the plane of the images of the reconstructed coherent sources, which mask is provided with means to transmit bundles of rays corresponding to different ones of the coherent light sources in sequence. As a result, a composite image will be produced approaching the appearance of the object illuminated by an extended incoherent source.
