A micro-surgical laser system wherein a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser is fixedly attached to the freely positionable combination of an operation or surgical microscope and a stereo laser endoscope. This arrangement completely eliminates the need for a bulky and/or complex laser-beam-guiding articulated arm apparatus. The laser features novel and light-weight construction, and novel means for heat exchanging.

Each diode is energized by a series of pulses having the same magnitude, although pulse magnitudes will vary from diode to diode. Therefore, light output from one lightemitting diode remains proportional to light output from the others.

There is disclosed an external pacer for operating together with an improperly functioning implantable pacer. The external pacer operates in the demand mode; as in the case of an implantable demand pacer, when a heartbeat is detected the generation of a stimulating pulse is inhibited. However, the external pacer also includes a mechanism for sensing a stimulating pulse generated by the implantable pacer. When such a pacer pulse is detected, the external pacer immediately generates a pulse which reinforces the pulse generated by the implantable pacer.
