A processor tracks the position of a catheter or a bolus of contrast enhancing material so that the catheter or bolus is maintained within the field of view of the imaging system, or within the displayed image where the images have been previously obtained. The position of the catheter may be determined by image analysis or magnetic or acoustic means, and the position of the bolus may be obtained by image analysis.
