摘要: A method for treating depression in a subject is provided. The method includes treating the subject by providing therapy such as administered through electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) or magnetic seizure therapy (MST). The method further includes evaluating the resulting change in the brain of the subject by measuring complexity of temporal dynamics in the brain of the subject, following treatment, to identify whether complexity of fine time scale temporal dynamics in the fronto-central and/or parieto-occipital region is reduced following treatment. The reduced complexity of fine time scale temporal dynamics in the fronto-central and/or parieto-occipital region following treatment is used to identify the subject as a responder to the therapy for treating depression. The step of evaluating further comprises identifying change in complexity of coarse scale temporal dynamics in a parieto-central region following treatment.

摘要: A method for strengthening, toning, and firming muscle tissues, the method includes receiving parameters for operating a magnetic muscle stimulation device. The parameters include: a first waveform frequency; one or more pulse durations; a second waveform frequency that is non-zero; causing, a first alternating current having one or more first pulses to flow for a first length of time through a coil according to the first waveform frequency; causing, a second alternating current having one or more second pulses to flow through the coil for a second length of time according to the second waveform frequency lower than the first waveform frequency. The method includes repeating the causing of the first and second alternating currents for a plurality of iterations to provide a continuously pulsed time-varying magnetic field that alternates between the first and the second waveform frequencies to generate a treatment session.

摘要: Apparatus and methods for managing pain uses separate varying electromagnetic fields, with a variety of temporal and amplitude characteristics, which are applied to a particular neural structure to modulate glial and neuronal interactions as a mechanism for relieving chronic pain. In another embodiment, a single composite modulation/stimulation signal which has rhythmically varying characteristics is used to achieve the same results as separate varying electromagnetic fields. Also, disclosed is an apparatus and method for modulating the expression of genes involved in diverse pathways including inflammatory/immune system mediators, ion channels and neurotransmitters, in both the Spinal Cord (SC) and Dorsal Root Ganglion (DRG) where such expression modulation is caused by spinal cord stimulation or peripheral nerve stimulation using the disclosed apparatus and techniques.

摘要: A system and method for brainwave entrainment using virtual objects, in which brainwave entrainment is applied using some combination of gaming elements, brainwave is enhanced by virtue of the user's active participation, and long-term use is encouraged by virtue of the entertaining nature of the gamification. Depending on configuration, the system and method may comprise a display comprising virtual objects, a light-producing device (other than the display), an audio-producing device such as speakers or headphones, a haptic feedback device such as a vibratory motor, a device for monitoring the user's attention, and a software application which applies brainwave entrainment using some combination of the display, the light-producing device, the audio-producing device, and the haptic feedback device.

摘要: An ocular positioning system for use with a magnetic treatment apparatus for treating an eye of a subject is provided, where the magnetic treatment apparatus includes a magnetic coil for generating a magnetic field and an electric field. The ocular positioning system includes a housing having a proximal end and a distal end, wherein the magnetic coil is disposed in the housing near the proximal end. A positioning member is at least partially attached to the housing proximal end, the positioning member including a base and an eyecup coupled thereon, where the eyecup is configured to receive an orbital region of the subject. At least one sensor is connected to the housing and in electrical communication with the magnetic coil, wherein when the at least one sensor detects the positioning member then the magnetic coil is capable of being activated for treatment.

摘要: An erythrocyte de-aggregation system includes a band, including a strap and housing securing an iron-cored, micro-coil to an appendage, such as a wrist, of a subject to apply a PEMF into a target vessel in the vascular system of the subject. Typically, all of the blood circulates about the body within a matter of a few minutes, some within seconds, thus treating the entire bloodstream over time. The portable PEMF system intensifies both the concentration of electromagnetic flux per unit area, as well as the depth of penetration into the body. The portable PEMF systems relies on the body's circulatory system to eventually pass the body's entire volume of blood past it over a period of time.
