Abstract: A capacitive power transfer system can include a power transmitter having one or more primary side filter components, a communications modulator, and transmitter capacitive couplers; and a power receiver having receiver capacitive couplers capacitively coupled to the transmitter capacitive couplers, one or more secondary side filter components, and a communication demodulator. The one or more primary side filter components and the one or more secondary side filter components can be selected to provide power amplifier operation at a power delivery frequency and act as a stable gain high pass filter above a communications cutoff frequency that is higher than the power delivery frequency.

Abstract: An inductive power receiving device configured to: supply power received with a power receiving coil to a load in a first mode; determine whether a converter voltage exceeds a threshold voltage; in response to the determining the converter voltage exceeds the threshold voltage after sending a charging mode request, switch to supplying power received with the power receiving coil to the load in a second mode; and in response to determining the converter voltage coil exceeds the threshold voltage before sending the charging mode request is sent, prevent at least a portion of the power received with the power receiving coil from reaching the load. An inductive power transmitting device configured to provide an alternating current voltage to a power transmitting coil and gradually increase the voltage after receiving a charging mode request and stop gradually increasing the voltage once an inductive power receiving device changes modes.

Abstract: A wireless power transmitting device transmits wireless power signals to a wireless power receiving device using an output circuit that includes a wireless power transmitting coil. Measurement circuitry is coupled to the output circuit to help determine whether the wireless power receiving device is present and ready to accept transmission of wireless power. Oscillator circuitry for supplying signals to the output circuitry while making measurements with the measurement circuitry is coupled to the output circuit using an impedance injection network. The impedance injection network includes an inductor and a resistor coupled in series. Control circuitry opens a transistor in the output circuit when making measurements with the measurement circuitry and closes the transistor when transmitting the wireless power signals.

Abstract: A wireless power system has a wireless power transmitting device and a wireless power receiving device. The wireless power transmitting device may be a wireless charging mat with one or more coils or may be a wireless charging puck with one or more coils. In some embodiments, the wireless charging puck may have six coils or other number of coils arranged in a ring. The wireless power receiving device may have an elongated magnetic core such as a C-shaped core with pillars at opposing ends. First and second coils may be formed on the pillars and a third coil may be formed between the first and second coils. The coils of the wireless power receiving device such as the first and second coils on the magnetic core may be configured to receive magnetic flux emitted by a pair of the six coils in the wireless charging puck.

Abstract: Implementations described herein provide systems and methods for wireless charging. In one implementation, a portable electronic device comprises a housing, a planar inductor coil, and a ferromagnetic shield. The ferromagnetic shield is disposed in the housing and overlaps the planar inductor coil. The ferromagnetic shield comprises a first layer comprising a first plurality of iron-based nanocrystalline ribbons arranged in adjacent rows along a first direction and a second layer comprising a second plurality of iron-based nanocrystalline ribbons overlapping the first layer. The second plurality of iron-based nanocrystalline ribbons is arranged in adjacent rows along a second direction different from the first direction.

Abstract: A wireless power system has a wireless power transmitting device and a wireless power receiving device. The wireless power transmitting device may be a wireless charging mat or other device with coils for transmitting wireless power signals. The wireless power receiving device may be a cellular telephone or other device with coils for receiving the transmitted wireless power signals. The wireless power receiving device has adjustable rectifier circuitry coupled to a pair of coils. The pair of coils is coupled in series at a node. A transistor is coupled between ground and the node and is controlled by control circuitry. The state of the transistor can be changed to place the adjustable rectifier circuitry in either a first mode of operation in which the adjustable rectifier circuitry forms a full-bridge rectifier or a second mode of operation in which the adjustable rectifier circuitry forms a pair of parallel half-bridge rectifiers.

Abstract: A wireless power transmitting device uses a wireless power transmitting coil to transmit wireless power signals to a wireless power receiving device. The wireless power transmitting coil is located in a housing. The housing has a circular outline and contains one or more magnets that couple to corresponding magnets in the wireless power receiving device to help align a wireless power receiving coil in the wireless power receiving device to the wireless power transmitting coil in the wireless power transmitting device. A circular array of capacitive sensor electrodes is supported by the housing at a location that overlaps the wireless power transmitting coil. Capacitive sensor measurements from the capacitive sensor array are analyzed to determine whether a foreign object such as a coin or paperclip is present between the housing and the wireless power receiving device.
