Abstract: This disclosure concerns a method for mitigating radar interference in an area, carried out by a first radar sensor device on a first vehicle and including: transmitting to a broadcasting center, via a wireless communication, navigation information of the first radar sensor device, radar parameter information including the current radar operating parameters of the first radar sensor device and mitigation capability information indicating the capabilities of the first radar sensor device to change one or more radar parameters and mitigate radar interference; receiving from the broadcasting center an updated list of radar sensor devices in the area including, for each radar sensor device, a navigation information and a radar parameter information, the radar parameter information for the first radar sensor device including a new radar parameter assigned in compliance with the transmitted mitigation capability information; and activating the new radar parameter in the first radar sensor device.

Abstract: An automotive radar system for detecting target objects in a traffic scene comprises an arrangement of transmit antennas, an arrangement of receive antennas, and a radar circuit connected to the transmit antennas and the receive antennas. Each transmit antenna is configured to transmit coherent superpositions of respective first transmit radar signals having first transmit polarizations and respective second transmit radar signals having second transmit polarizations. Each receive antenna is configured to separate target reflections of the transmitted radar signals received from the target objects into first signal portions having first receive polarizations and into second signal portions having second receive polarizations. The radar circuit is configured to vary resulting transmit polarizations of the transmitted superpositions of transmit radar signals and to coherently evaluate the first and second signal portions received by the individual receive antennas to determine polarization properties of the received target reflections.

Abstract: This document discloses techniques, apparatuses, and systems for mitigating radar interference between radar sensor devices (e.g., on multiple vehicles), including various performed by a first radar sensor device (e.g., within a first vehicle). The first radar sensor device determines information about a driving scenario in a surrounding environment of the first radar sensor device based on information received from multiple sources. The first radar sensor may determine, based on the determined information about the driving scenario in the surrounding environment, how to change at least one radar parameter of the first radar sensor device to avoid a possible radar interference. The at least one radar parameter may be changed according to the determination. In this way, a radar sensor device may mitigate radar interferences and improve radar performance.

Abstract: An automotive radar system for detecting target objects in a traffic scene comprises at least one transmit antenna, at least one receive antenna, and a radar circuit connected to the at least one transmit and receive antenna. The transmit antenna is configured to transmit the transmit radar signal having variable polarization. A logic unit of the radar system is configured to receive information on a full polarization state of an incoming radar signal emitted by at least one other radar device located within the traffic scene and the logic unit is configured to determine a transmit polarization state that has maximum isolation from the polarization state of the at least one incoming radar signal. The radar circuit is configured to adjust a polarization of the transmit radar signal transmitted via the at least one transmit antenna to match the determined transmit polarization state.
