Abstract: Mesotetraarylporphines are produced by reaction of pyrrole with an aromatic aldehyde in the presence of an organic substance having a dehydrogenating effect as an oxidizing agent and of a lower aliphatic carboxylic acid. The mesotetraarylporphines are suitable as such or in the form of their metal complexes particularly as photooxidation sensitizers.
