Abstract: The invention comprises compounds of formula where R1 is an optionally halogen-substituted C1- 4 alkyl or alkoxy radical or an aryl radical, R2 is an optionally halogen-substituted C1- 4 alkyl radical, and X is oxygen or sulphur. They are prepared by reacting 2-fluoromethyl-4-methyl - 6 - hydroxypyrimidine with a halide (R1)(R2O)P(X)Hal, preferably in the presence of an acid binding agent or using the phenol in the form of a salt. An inert organic solvent may be used and temperatures of 30-90 DEG C. are mentioned. The products are pesticides. 2 - Fluoromethyl - 4 - methyl - 6 - hydroxypyrimidine, stated to be novel, may be prepared by condensing fluoroacetamidine with ethyl acetoacetate.ALSO:Pesticidal compositions comprise organophosphorus compounds of formula where R1 is an optionally halogen-substituted C1-4 alkyl or alkoxy radical or an aryl radical, R2 is an optionally halogen-substituted C1-4 alkyl radical and X is oxygen or sulphur, together with a solid or liquid carrier.
