Abstract:
An annular slot proportional jet amplifier is disclosed in which an annular control jet is used to deflect an annular power jet from an annular receiver into a low pressure region to provide a high gain proportional jet amplifier. A fluidic sound generator is also disclosed utilizing an annular slot proportional jet amplifier, with the annular receiver coupled to a centerbody and horn radiator structure in order to provide high intensity sound generation.
Abstract:
A fluid flow device which will produce a tailored flow-rate to pressure difference relationship including a laminar and an orifice restriction connected to a radial and a tangential inlet respectively of a vortex valve, with both connected in parallel to the upstream pressure source. Flow across the assemblage will be such that the vortex valve will act like a smaller orifice at lower flows and a larger orifice at higher flows, or vice versa, due to the shifting of the respective shares of the total flow accommodated by the laminar and orifice restrictions. This arrangement is incorporated into a shock absorber to produce an improved output damping characteristic.
Abstract:
A pressure measuring device comprising a U-shaped clamp which is easily and rapidly attached to or removed from a pressurized enclosure to measure pressure thereon by measuring deformation of the enclosure without breaking the surface of the enclosure. Deformation of the enclosure is measured by detecting changes in strain in the arms of the clamp by strain gage means. The device is insensitive to the effects of acceleration thereon.
Abstract:
Leak detector apparatus comprising a sensor which can be clamped on a vacuum or pneumatic pressure line to detect the presence of a leak in the line near the clamping location, and an indicator coupled to the sensor to indicate the intensity of signals transmitted by the sensor. The sensor includes a transducer formed of piezoelectric material for transducing to an electric signal the low-amplitude, high-frequency random-force component applied to the clamping surfaces by the turbulence noise which results from the leak. Certain embodiments of the apparatus have a sensor which also includes a mechanical resonator for amplifying the electrical signal that is transmitted.
