Abstract: A video tape recorder has an erase head positioned at a predetermined distance ahead of the record/playback head along the transport path of the tape. A first additional head is energized simultaneously with the erase head to leave a mark on an auxiliary track. The mark is sensed by a second additional head spaced from the first additional head by a distance equal to the distance between the erase and record/playback heads. The sensed mark causes the record/playback head to be switched to the recording circuit thereby causing the recording to begin at the start of the taped portion erased by the erase head.
