摘要： Method and apparatus for producing from a workpiece, such as a billet, product of reduced cross section, such as wire. A load pattern is applied to the workpiece which induces compressive stresses at a localised region of the workpiece at an orifice defining the product cross section. Heat is applied to the workpiece at a localised region adjacent the orifice. The compressive stresses and heat applied are such that the material of the workpiece is caused to flow through the orifice.
